Re: How do you feel after work
lol i knew wot u meant by polotician.. maybe they should get out and about, do a few rounds and see what a job is like before shooting their mouth off.
them and people who influence them from business commerce chambers who are far to quick to criticize. all the business people are concerned about is relying on an efficient mail system that caters for businesses. with out this, the economy is hit hard. so the quicker these people realise exactly what is going on, the better. politicians must be told what the problems are and where they lay, and the public should be told too.
managers get hard pressed and they cannot operate very well if they haven't got the resources and staff. whatever happens, managers who are pushing staff to the hilt is not acceptable.. and the managers manager does not help by pushing that manager to the hilt. it's just a big mess which does not have a solution to sort out the mess. and if it doesn't get sorted, it could end up in a situation that in 2011, regarding a partial sell off, nobody would want to take it on.
yes, they are trying to get a high standard service at the lowest cost. and providing the same service with fewer workers.

Re: How do you feel after work
found this in yahoo...
You are right, being a letter carrier does not require advanced degrees. Here in the US postal workers cannot strike as they work for the federal government. Currently, most letter carriers here walk for 6 to 8 hours per day, maybe more if they work over time and cover about 10 to 15 miles per day with a bag full of mail weighing up to 40 pounds. Most make over $40,000 a year. If there is 2 feet of snow, they are delivering mail. If it is 95 degrees, they are delivering mail.

johnsouthwales wrote:this is what was mentioned before, if everyone had a gentle walking pace. people are not designed by nature to walk fast, a normal steady walking pace is 1.5-2mph. in december, it was mentioned in the press to force workers to walk harder and 4mph was mentioned. walking at 4mph constantly is simply too much. it's adding onto an already over-stretched industry. and over work in the long run does not have any benefits healthwise whatsoever. not only does it lead to leg injuries, there are other factors to consider. flu, colds, general run down. the body's immune system will get run down, stress.....
as for forcibly having to wear a pedometer, isn't an infringement on rights? even if it is the only way to tell if someone is constantly walking 4mph, acting as a tachograph. and just how can you tell you are walking 4mph constantly and not dipping down to 3.75mph? or like i said, someone could be unwittingly be walking 4.5mph and that is even worse..
the back end of pavements, and people park their cars in front, meaning I have to walk round the cars ,on to the road and back to the next gate. 2/3rds of my round are like that so I have about twenty minutes extra which is not accounted for!
often in our office, a few of us wear them(For Fun) and see how many steps we cover on our walks, and it is really surprising. lots of folk whe feel they have 'the worst walk in the office'(We all have of course) find they do a lot less than others. Still think they would give a more accurate picture than pegasus.
