Alternatives to RM issue boots ?

Fed up of my feet aching badly after finishing delivery ( and i am on rural van rounds usually !! ) The RM Magnum boots just arent up to the job imho.

As the new M&M book has arrived, been having a look at alternatives, either boots or trainers, Doc martens etc

I did used to have a pair of black leather Nike Shox, which were great and felt like walking on air, but sadly when i was on a ramble one day, one of them came off in boggy ground and sunk without trace
Dont seem to stock the shox anymore

So appreciate any recommendations please, going out now but will check back later.

i ended up with tendonitus because of magnums so i have tried everything from merrells to cheap asda boots and everything in between. but now i wear doc marts and my feet have never felt better.

This is an extrememly dangerous strategy to undertake.

If you wish to wear something else it must be verified to conform to all the standards for the job. If you were to have any mishap whilst not wearing the approved PPE you may quite literally not have a leg to stand on!

I thought I read somewhere that RM were looking at caterpillers and doc martins as well as the magnums so that they could encourage more workers to were the proper foot ware that met the safty standards. Are they not in trial stages.

thats the whole point probably ! they just seem to fall apart and you are forced to wear them, the only thing I could think of is air cushion insoles.

Once again we have returned to the old boots posts. I am forced on threat of conduct code to wear the magnum boots even though they cause my feet to sweat, swell and get blisters thats when I have not slipped over in them. I told my DOM the other day about the new trials but he wasn't interested says he knows nothing and I must still wear these unless I get a doctors note saying why can't wear them. And even then he will not guarantee not to force me to wear them He keeps quoting memo's about his job to ensure correct footwear so accidents are reduced, its a shame RM don't realize they are causeing the accidents in the first place.

my dom tried this approach. my doctor said if he requires any confidential medical records he has 2 go thru the correct procedures. told my dom this and also told him if he forces me to wear magnums i will go on indefinate sick lol.

I have not used my pair yet ive still got the old boots but most if not all of the guys who have the magum mk2s at our place reckon they are ok.

Yes but the police issue cost 5 times more than the budget cheapo ones RM request. Thats why they only last approx 6weeks. Another cost cutting attempt by RM which has backfired. Once again RM senior management / decision makers proving they are not capable of running our company.

Magnum only provide a limited number of boots to the MOD, these boots are only issues usually to marines/paras/divers and SF's if needed they are the better boot but come at a price. The standard MOD high combat boot is cr@p, it takes forever to break in and need to be worn with insoles actual finish quality can be quite suspect too. The MOD also use a boot known as a DMS boot the current design is similar to a half height at boot, it's better than what we got at first but it's still pretty poor.

The MOD have previously done trials on the cat trainer, they failed with waterproofing issues, and the bosses thought that they looked to casual but were real comfy.

full price cops magnums boots 120 quid . di walt have got some nice ones, £45. most boots are clumpy anyway and weigh a ton lol.

The selection of foot protection depends primarily on the hazard. However, comfort, style and durability should also be considered. The choice should be made on the basis of suitability for protection, compatibility with the work and the requirements of the user. This means that if the footwear is not comfortable for the user in the environment for which it is intended then your Employer cannot force you to wear it.

you should get a doctors note if you pay for this rm should pay for this as they requested it,also they give you up to £30 towards buying shoes so you may get shoes suitable for the job
