Re: VAN SHARING
It is gradualy being mooted about in our office that it is on its way.Heard an unusual twist on it today from a manager .
The planning team could be coming into the office to look at told the manager it was not aprils fools day yet.He beleives the walks would be made smaller so 2 of you can share a van and do every thing,he says astra vans .
I cannot belive the walks could be made smaller ,although many are huge and a struggle to do on all but the quietest days, also a astra van simply would not be big enough a crew bus barley big enough on a busy day ,that can be almost filled up with 6 guys bags ,but then if mail volumes are falling dramaticly, and many posties on the ground simply are imagining delivering more catoluges and dsa and packets then astra vans be no problem.

Re: VAN SHARING
Glad it's just not us then, you must be in the top 10 offices in the country and must be attached to a mail centre, the idea is that the biggest savings to be made are offices that are big and that have walks that the management deem can have as many staff that can be chopped over to 2 in a van joining walks, the idea came from; that the CWU have said keeping full time jobs are at the top of the shopping list, the new Hitlers words not mine,in order to do this we have to take more work out but with less staff. What has gone on in our office is a new DOM with his TEAM have been bought in all other managers gone, peggie is being rerun, the planning team are coming back in, you will flex up and flex down there will be no O/T. We have to drive costs down as we have been running with the bar to high, you do less work than you did before so you will have to do more work from now on,staff will be trying out 2 in a van work and if that goes well then we will bring more duties in,does any of this sound the same as your office. This is what we have been having pushed at us this week new broom and he's out to sweep the office!

Re: VAN SHARING
Park & Loop is the in thing - it is a dual purpose tool to increase the delivery span and get the weight off the shoulder, though in our case I don't think it has been tested to the point where there is a definitive way to do things, so whatever happens it will be the posties fault because they aren't following protocol.

Re: VAN SHARING
Its not bein brought into our office right now, although trying to bring in Long and shorts and low levels of O/T.
DOM has been told it is happening soon ,but thats it.
In last year we have a a total new Management team brought in,trouble is all new Managers are Young and lacking in Expirence and do without question what they are to.
Think they are trying to put the feelers out to see what our reaction might be .
when Pegusus was brought in ,a total diaster from service levels, security levels and cost levels .Cost exsisting DOM his job.
A lot of guys in our office just bury their head in the sand and say it wont happen!

Same thing happening at my office, one p/code area completed so far and failing virtually everyday, another due to start on the 30th, 2 more areas to be butchered within the next few weeks, including rurals. Had to sit through a mega b*llsh*t presentation the other day (when the computer worked!) which lasted nearly an hour and another one this weekbandit650 wrote:Glad it's just not us then, you must be in the top 10 offices in the country and must be attached to a mail centre, the idea is that the biggest savings to be made are offices that are big and that have walks that the management deem can have as many staff that can be chopped over to 2 in a van joining walks, the idea came from; that the CWU have said keeping full time jobs are at the top of the shopping list, the new Hitlers words not mine,in order to do this we have to take more work out but with less staff. What has gone on in our office is a new DOM with his TEAM have been bought in all other managers gone, peggie is being rerun, the planning team are coming back in, you will flex up and flex down there will be no O/T. Start times and Network 2007
Royal Mail has introduced later start times for operational reasons. CWU note these changes. Given that there has been little or no opportunity for discussion about these changes at local level, both Royal Mail and CWU are committed to resolve any outstanding issues. Royal Mail and CWU will urgently review these arrangements at local level in line with the following:
• Henceforth the normal start times will be between 0600 and 0630
• Changes in start times should take account, as far as possible, of individual circumstances

Re: VAN SHARING
we have oodles of space
those spaces you see are part of the car park
we are basically in a DO housed inside a warehouse
mind you the office workers next door may not be so happy as all those vans take spaces, then all the posties cars at the DO all day ;)

If anyone have done it for more than 3 months, let us know how well or badly it worked out ? I am wondering what to expect.

Re: VAN SHARING
As brother dvbuk55 says, it along with further high capacity trolleys is the in thing. A decision has been made to phase out the Royal Mail Letters Cycle Fleet over the next couple of years, reducing the Fleet from around 28,000 down to less than 1000 as new delivery methods are introduced based mainly on Vans and Trolleys. There will remain a small number of cycles and over the shoulder pouch walks is the current assumption. From a Safety point of view, bearing in mind current day traffic conditions, accidents and fatalities.dvbuk55 wrote:Park & Loop is the in thing - it is a dual purpose tool to increase the delivery span and get the weight off the shoulder, though in our case I don't think it has been tested to the point where there is a definitive way to do things, so whatever happens it will be the posties fault because they aren't following protocol.
