Independence for Scotland
I think that with the uk public being totally against part privatisation that in the next elections both Labour and the tory scum who are going to support them will see their votes disappear. The public dont want this and with GB's handling of the economy the public are p*ssed off. Any tory voting with labour will be tarred with the same brush and in Scotland their share of the votes will be less than the little they have had in the last elections. The Lib dems will continue to see a reasonable amount of the vote but the snp who are against the part privatisation will be the biggest vote winner. Most labour voters in scotland will switch to snp rather than any other party and this will give the snp a huge majority. Goodbye UK and welcome to the United nations of Britain.
The time has come to stop turning the other cheek, time to stop shaking our heads in bitter dismay, time to stop mumbling our angry words.
The time has come for union.
The time has come for union.

Maybe to protect public services and end PFI we well have to kiss goodbye to England, i'm fed up seeing dyed in the wool socialists head for westminster then sell us out cos they have been given a nice English safe seat, And the Tories hate the Scots even more than Nu Labour, heaven help us when they win the next election,

Re: Independence for Scotland
One note I should say, put aside all emotional Braveheart and Wallace retorics, had Scotland been independent now, it would in very severe financial trouble, the collapse of the bank of Scotland would have cost more than the entire GDP of Scotland and effectively making the Country bankrupt, as it happened in Iceland, it took the IMF to bail them out, in fact it is alomost like a rerun of the Darien scheme disaster that swallowed up a quarter of the GDP of Scotland, it took England to bail you out and rescue you from National Bankruptancy, in fact we saved your bacon twice now.
If Scotland leave the Union and I am not about to stop them from doing so, it is a democratic choice, the UK whats left of it would expect Scotland to repay all funds used to prop up the National Bank, Scotland has no national solvent bank of its own to run the national Economy, If Scotland does go its own way and sucessfully pay back all debts and prints its own Banknotes unless it decides to use the Euro, there is little collateral to back Scotland's finances up.
If Scotland do go its own way, good luck to you, you will need it.

Don't forget though that the full name of the Bank of Scotland was HBOS - Halifax Bank of Scotland IIRC the Halifax part was actually the major shareholder prior to the credit crunch so not sure really that we can claim we saved Scotlands' bacon in this case. In fact the SNP got an agreement with HBOS about lay offs etc which caused a lot on anger in my part of the world, but I personally applaud what they did as they were doing what they could to protect Scottish Workers. Its a pity the Government complained about rather than learnt from it.NWpostie wrote:One note I should say, put aside all emotional Braveheart and Wallace retorics, had Scotland been independent now, it would in very severe financial trouble, the collapse of the bank of Scotland would have cost more than the entire GDP of Scotland and effectively making the Country bankrupt, as it happened in Iceland, it took the IMF to bail them out, in fact it is alomost like a rerun of the Darien scheme disaster that swallowed up a quarter of the GDP of Scotland, it took England to bail you out and rescue you from National Bankruptancy, in fact we saved your bacon twice now.

I can understand the bad feeling towards the Tory Party because of all that tax revenue from North Sea gas and oil was used by Baroness Barmy to pay for dole money .
With the bad management of the banks - this is unfortunately what happens when countries try to build an economy on nothing or basically just debt . It's amazed me that they've got away with it for so long .

Scotland as far as I am aware does not have its own National Banking insitution (Like Bank of England , Ireland or US Treasury) for printing of Treasury notes, fiscal discipline and setting interest rates.
An Independent Scotland will have to start from scratch, confidence in the Scottish Pound will be low until the Scottish parliament can prove its financial security.
The Bank of Scotland would have been that except it was merged with Halifax a privatised insitution rather than a National one.
I would be happy to support an Independent Scotland as long as you agree to take back Tony Bliar, Gordon Broon and put them in Stocks on Edinburgh Royal Mile

Re: Independence for Scotland
The only way scotland would get independence would be to let the English have a vote.
It would be a nailed on certainty.

Re: Independence for Scotland
the Oil revenue will be split, the pipelines ended in Scotland as it was the nearest landing point, that can easily be diverted to Berwick or Newcastle.
anyhoo Oil is running low.
Scotland would be expected to pay back money loaned/invested to Scotland otherwise the Scottish Pound value will nosedive due to poor Creditworthiness and unwillingness to repay Debts.

Scotland would just join the Euro and work along side Europe more than the English do, so Scotland woudl just become a small state within Europe just like Ireland.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
