STARTING AND FINISHING TIMES

Post by Puppetmaster »

Been told today of new start times as wanted by dom basicaly long and shorts, short the early week and then long and long.Been sold that it is DOMS idea ,after being on this forum I think its more a nationwide policy, CWU have to go along with it .All this when supposedly volumes are falling ,but that is another debate. Most days now when I finnish am shattered ,and I know not only one.

Like many just so unhappy at present size of rounds now ,the amount and weight of mail ,like many for a quiet life come in early go without meal break, hopefully most days finnish on time.

Just how much more can they keep putting on us?

We've had "long and shorts" for about 12 months now. Long Monday and Friday, short Tuesday and Saturday, part of our "flexibility" agreement.
We seem to get along with it .........or are we just used to it now ?

As for the quiet life, that's your personal choice, but i can tell you that if you started at your proper time and ate something during your entitled
meal break, you wouldn't feel so shattered at the end of your duty.
I'm not preaching to you, but as you say ......how much more can you do ?

Its not our fault they can't balance the amount of mail but yet we get punished.
The job is quite physical these days. Its like an endurance test.
9 hours on a friday kills me.

tuts at people not eating.. you cant run a car on no fuel :cuppa .. people fought hard for break entitlements. and it wasnt that long ago that i was having an outdated "universal" paid ten minutes breaktime at a place i worked at for a short time. running a car on empty always leads to seizure. working through breaks always sounds like bravado but it will fek u up in the end
and here comes avi cohen! oh i say! at the same end, he's got one back!!

How do the longs and shorts apply when nationally the max delivery time is 3.5 hours on the town?
Is it more IPS on the longer days or did you sign up to longer deliveries against the unions advice?
Our office is the same start time every day and same finish time. We dont do any lapsing although they are trying to get us to agree to lapsing during the summer again.
We are a small office but we are united against change for changes sake. If they can add stuff onto us as lapsing then we tell them to test us and give it to us as part of a duty. They wont do banked hours as it will hurt them on the saturdays.
Even during the so called quiet summer months of lapsing it was very unusual for the whole office to take it. Some refused as it would make them go over and towards the end of the week they cancelled it as they knew it would be everyone refusing.
I cannot see how longs and shorts would apply in our office without making it longer than 3.5 hour deliveries.
The time has come to stop turning the other cheek, time to stop shaking our heads in bitter dismay, time to stop mumbling our angry words.
The time has come for union.

we used to do lapsing etc , now from April its been decided to work from 6.30am to 2.30pm all through the year, I think it simplifies things.
