Re: Are there any Good Managers
isn't management supposed be promoted from within? working the ranks?
i've had managers brought in from other fields of indusrty and it does not look a pretty sight when they have no experience and are totally lost, and demoralises a work force eventually. managers should always remember where they are coming from and who they once were..
maybe mandelson ought to spend a bit of timegoing through the system, do a few rounds. give him a hat and a scarf, a sack. Let him get some action in.. who knows, he might be a better postie than a minister without portfolio (whatever that is actually meant to mean)
.
He seems to know a lot without having experience

Re: Are there any Good Managers
maybe it be best for the tories to win the next election... so all proper labour supporters can blame the so called elitists and cast them out forever. because as things stand, nobody can afford to let cameron slip in, and that downfall will just have a lasting damaging legacy. and the only people to blame for that is labour as a whole. and it won't do anyone any good when they cry wolf about it.
whta does elitism mean? it's not about natural confidence, as you get that in any walk of life through dignity and self-worth and job satisfaction (or used to be if there's such a thing anymore). over-competitivness seems to be the norm. what are they trying to achieve? a premier league status of british workers? no.. that is not enough. a superleague.. maybe a super elite of a superleague..where do u draw the phsycological line? the only way the elitists can win is when they stab each other in the back amongst themselves and drag everybody else down again when it all goes wrong. not everybody in day to day activities are not designed to give their best best. footballers give their utmost as their careers have a certain natural tme span as all you footy fans already know, as we all cheer on our faves and heroes. same as a musician, most bands give their best best (the real bands i mean) as they know that they have to do this as they will know that if they didn't put on a good show and are aware of it that their fans pay good money to see them. most musicians have a limited working span however good they are. but musicians and footballers have always been down to earth and that is the difference. elitists always have their primary interests and instincts in power and set over realistic life-goals.
there is no harm in evolving into a commendable "team". where would we all be if we didn't have the liverpools. if you watch a 1970's match now through a dvd or tv programme like the big-match replayed, they were your teams..idols.. compare the speed of a match today compared to then and you will see the difference. and the differnece is that in the 70's, players were naturaly strong. players today are "programmed" into being athletes. and exactly the same thing happens everywhere else. the evolution of uk culture. traffic volumes. give a normally mild mannered person a car and the persona will soon change into something they not normally are. impatience, overtaking, cutting up traffic just to get somewhere a few seconds earlier. this kind of thing was going on 10 years ago and no doubt things have not got any better.
like in another post, i cannot see how for example the press mentioning bosses to force workers to walk faster. 4mph. two flaws in this is obvious. one is that the only way to achieve this is by having a pedometer strapped to an ankle (acting as a tachograph and checked weekly or whenever). and without having some form of system, how can someone tell they are walking at 4mph and another person walks at 3mph. people could actually be walking at 4.5mph without realising it, and in those circumstances, the only destination is burn-out. secondly, the human body is not designed to naturally walk at those speeds. a walk round the park as an amble is around 1.5mph. a brisk walk is between 2 - 2.5mph. brisk walks are temporary activities, not constant throughout a day.
i have seen postmen in my area walking in a rush, and these are fitmen, tall average builds, non-smokers, and they look tired in their faces. another postwoman who used to do the rounds here, actually died because she was always rushed on her job. and you simply just do not know what to say to them even if you recognise it. the latest female postie in my area is quite young approx mid-twenties and started about two months ago looks tired. another female postie from a nearby village not so long ago had a heart attack in early forties. this is the way it is, and by all means it is not acceptable.
so the quicker mr mandelson and all his cronies, get off their hinds and take a look around them, get into all the cities, all the towns, all the villages. let them do the graft and get a real taster then have a think before opening their mouths. i am sure the cwu know exactly what is what, maybe they keep quite. then again, most union reps may have worked somewhere before and where they used to work is totally different than another union members place of work. but they stop becoming workers as soon as they become a rep, whether in a town which is different than a city, and a city is different than a rural area and vice-versa. but everyone the length and breadth of the uk all have one thing in common and so many different stories to tell.

Re: Are there any Good Managers
I BELEIVE THE REMOTE SENIOR managers ,in almost every organisiation at present are removed from reality ,and please dont tell them the facts of life either or you will be in trouble,
I know so many large organisations, where they are only interested in cutting costs to a bone, being able to offer the same service levels and standards is totally irrelevant till some thing goes wrong.Impact upon staff, well They will tell you the staff welcome it or understand the reasons why,and the changes will have no effect upon anything than being more efficient and saving money.
Staff now are to scared to scared to speak up for fear of reprisals from Management, and even on this Forum you have to be carefull .
As for Lower levels of Management, they have 2 choices they either try to implement what the big bosses want or they Jump ship if they are lucky.Find in many organisations now low level managers are scared of own shadow and wont make a decision or except the truth.
