The first applicant and her friend took them for a walk. While passing a young lad on the pavement, one of the Rottweilers, "Rocky", went for him, bit him and tore his scrotum.

Although I don't know much about SBTs. It's a fact, that all dogs are pack animals, who need to have a pack leader. That SHOULD be the owner (although there are some, who can't control their dogs), and they take their cues from the pack leader.

If their leader is agressive, and intimidates people. The dog will attempt to do the same. And THAT'S where the problem lies. If a bad owner, gets a powerful dog. It becomes a dangerous animal, with the potential to kill. Does that make the breed of dog dangerous? :hmmmm
Of course not! :evil/mad :arrrghhh

What makes it worse, is that once a dog has grown up, thinking that his/her behaviour is normal, and expected of them. It's a difficult, and sometimes impossible job. To change that attitude, to make them safe around people. That's why the Courts decide to kill dogs which have attacked someone. As stokes11eg pointed out: If those 2 dogs attack anyone again. The ones who let them live, will be held accountable. By the Press at the very least. :hmmmm

As far as I'm concerned: The owners of dogs who attack someone, should face a custodial sentence!!!!! That would hopefully, make them think twice about getting a powerful dog, and not looking after it properly! :hmmmm

Are you referring to the fact that the appellant had, had dogs for many years, without incident?
If so. Remember, that this was a relative's dog, and therefore hadn't been trained, or brought up by the appellant.

If you're still under the misconception that the dogs are naturally dangerous, then please re-read my earlier post. Or better still, contact an expert in dog behaviour.

Brother because you are who you are and ONLY have the best interests of us all then a ding dong would be wrong! Your posts on RMC alone have made the working place a better place to be for most all of us and will continue to do so. But this thing about dogs is a complicated issue that needs education understanding and law if need be! My dog is part of MY FAMILY I love and respect him as he does us as a family he has brought more life into my household not less as the VAST majority of dogs do! Yes their are problems as there is with most things and the law should be up to the task and as normal is not. The one punished should be the owner from the outset! Not a poor dumb animal that has led a cr*p life and knows no better. The owner is the one that should pay the high price first not a slap on the wrist and the dog destroyed because thats the easy way we use at the mo and it does not work! Do you really think the yob cares if his dog is destroyed and he gets a small fine? NO CHANCE! He or she will just go and get another one and abuse that dog till it does the same again. We are all adults so should look at the problem in a grown up way! Reacting in a knee jerk way without considering the implacations is best left for the other side! We are meant to know better because we get ALL the facts and make a considered judgement on those truths. As bad as any attack by a dog is (and there are some horrific examples in the media we must put them into perspective! The first thing i would do is IGNORE THE RIGHT WING PRESS that seem to feel the need to champion some cause or another because we all know they make the facts fit the story, after all they have been doing it to Trade Unionists for decades and we all know most all of it is bollax so why when they print a story about dogs and a picture that they pulled of a snarling dog do we think its all true, are WE being conned again so they can sell papers or watch their news media on TV? As i said before WE need to deal with the problem and in a harsh way as well because like a heavy or fast car you should be up for the job of owning and dealing with problems and some people just are able to not on both counts and if thats the case the law should protect us all! This it fails to do and in the case of dogs Government thinks because THEY have failed its OK to kill ALL dogs of that breed! Well i dont think like that! My dog is a TRUSTED PART of my family and i would no more see him slaughtered on the whim of the media as i would just about any person living! Alls i ask is you open up your mind to other ways of dealing with a problem other than the media way which is always slaughter!

:Applause :Applause Total respect for your point of view brother :Applause :Applause Had a wee family loving dog for eighteen odd years myself before death through old age, so in that respect I am definately not anti-dog. And I merely advocate that all dogs regardless of breed have the propensity to be dangerous. I would be the first to agree that ultimate responsibility of any dogs actions surely lies with their respective owners or with persons who are materially left in charge of them, through proper training and education. With regards to the law each case as you well know rightly or wrongly is judged purely on it's individual merits by the judicial profession.

Just a Staffy Cross

Today is just another day - to me they're all the same
I have the worst of genes you see, I bear the "Staffy" shame.
The shame is in our numbers, there's thousands with no home.
Thousands just like me you'll find, in kennels all alone.

My mum was "just a Staffy", my father - well who knows?
Mum, too, became unwanted, as the last puppy goes.
And then begins the process, of money-making deals
A life of "moving on" unfolds, who cares how the Staffy feels?
If you have the cash to hand, the Staffy pup is yours
But that pup is getting bigger now, just look at those big paws.

You brought me for your image, thought I'd make you look more tough
But you'll find my boisterous nature has already got too much.
If you had thought to train me, with kindness and with praise
You would have had a faithful friend to share your darkest days.
I would lay down my life for you, but you simply cannot see
You make sure you get your money back on what you paid for me.

And on it goes, until one day, I'm no longer worth a dime
The retail on an adult staff - not worth the waste of time.
So what happens to a Staffy now? Do you really want to know?
Do you care what will become of us, when we leave our final home?

Have you ever thought to wonder, "Where is that Staffy now?"
The "Staffy" has another name; he's become a "stray" somehow.
Me, I was put into a car and driven far away
The door held open, I jumped out, I thought to run and play.
It was with joy and happy heart I turned to look for you
You drove away with all my trust and a piece of my heart too.

I wondered round for many days before I was brought here.
Now I wait with heavy heart, trepidation and with fear.
Seven days is all I have you see, seven days for you to claim
The little dog that you threw out, for which you have no shame.

This is my last goodbye now my seven days are up
If only more thought had gone into the future of that pup
As the needle empties to my veins I lay down with one last sigh
I'm sorry I was born a Staff, because it means that I must die.

Author unknown.

linkinpark wrote:Now that moved me! Because that is the truth for Thousands of dogs not just SBTs! Our local radio station is pleading for people to help with this type of breed because they have so many that people got and have no idea of what they will become! My boy is 20+ kgs without a grm of fat, his chest is like a barrel and his muscles ripple as he moves he is over 51cms at the shoulder and that is very large for a SBT but he is pure SBT not that would matter to ANYONE that looked and saw the dog that could well become part of his or her life! As with all dogs you need patience and love and ALL breeds will pay back that very small investment with UTTER devotion and love (not in the human way!) but a dog way that is complete and does not require a return but is always welcome by the dog! If someone is not a dog lover then it cant really be explained but if my dog was not there then something big would be missing from our home. Its not just dogs but cats have the same affect on a home as well, if you dont have one or the other then think about it the RSPCA ect ect have thousands that need proper homing all the time and for those that wish to look after those animals properly the rewards are more than can ever be written here or anywhere else!

Woman denies dog out of control:
A 44-year-old Shropshire woman today denied allowing her dog to be dangerously out of control and attack a five-year-old child at a county beauty spot.

Annette Patrisha Ambrose, of Sheinton Road, Cressage, near Shrewsbury, appeared at the town’s magistrates court to deny the offence.

The offence is alleged to have taken place on October 27, 2008 at National Trust property Attingham Park.

Thanks Brothermagrew. It's a relief to see that the Press are finally taking a responsible view of the problem, instead of simply sensationalising it. Hopefully, others will take a hint from this article, and THINK before getting a dog.

They make wonderful pets, and companions. But you need to know what's involved in looking after a particular breed (and of course dogs in general), before deciding to take one on. In the right Family: Even a so-called dangerous breed, will be a safe, and happy pet. In the wrong Family: ANY dog can be dangerous. :hmmmm

Boy's arm broken in dog attack
Dog attack victim
Szymon Sova had just moved to the area where he was attacked

An eight-year-old boy has suffered a double fracture to his arm after being attacked by a dog in County Londonderry.

The boy was attacked by the animal in the Somerset Drive area of Coleraine at about 2000 BST on Tuesday.

Szymon Sova had just moved to the area with his parents two weeks ago.

A police spokesperson said the dog, a bull mastiff, had been seized and issued an appeal for witnesses to contact officers in Coleraine.

The dog's owner was arrested and later released without charge.

Bull Mastiffs are big dangerous dogs that would have broken that childs arm very easily.
