CWU - NEC ANNUAL REPORT 2008/9

The CWU is pleased to be able to present to you the 2008/9 Annual Report. This document contains a brief overview of all the major activities that the union has carried out over the last year on behalf of our members. The Annual Report is divided into sections and describes the major areas of work for which the National Executive and Officers of the union are responsible. Many
of the union’s policy positions are reported in the document, and we have tried to report upon those activities which have demanded a more focussed campaigning strategy. We have had a number of CWU campaigns this year and we have also been part of wider campaigning activity within the Trade Union movement both here and aboard.

The NEC hopes that members and Branch Officers find the Annual Report to be an informative document which can serve as a good reference guide to the union’s activity.

It has been an immensely challenging year for the CWU and its members, and no doubt 2009 will prove to be just as demanding. We are as determined as ever to oppose those employers, organisations or indeed governments who try to impose change that is detrimental to our members’ interests. There is no room for complacency and you can be assured that we will remain focussed on the issues that are of importance to our members. In all our efforts, the collective contribution of our activists and members will be vital to our future success. The union has achieved many things this year and I would like to thank the NEC,
