Hey I just joined the royal mail aswell in my local mail centre, working nights 1.30 am until 6.30 am also got my starter pack and contract through today mine also says its a 6 month contract, is that normal to everyone who starts? or is it likely that it is just a 6 month contract and once its done, its done? thankyou

im pretty sure its a contract to 'see how we get along'. after the 6months, we will *hopefully get offered a long term contract. im only part-time, 20 hrs a week.

but strangely, in the pack i have received, the paperwork says at the top. "LONG TERM CONTRACT FOR OPERATIONAL POSTAL GRADE".

quite confusing, as a 6month trial isn't long term in my book.

yeah I am really chuffed I got the job, im working nights so should be fun, what shift are you working? yeah my contract says the same.at my interview they said it was 6 months because of the shift and that there would be jobs after, but i expect it is to see how you are in the job.

All jobs have a 6 month probationary period, doesn't mean your contract isn't long term, it is. You'd have to be a real dunse to not continue after 6 months!

Just wondered if im working nights 25 hours a week they said about a night allowence, do you know roughly what the hourly pay will be? and is it weekly pay? just wondering as im saving up to buy my own island in the carribean lol

i think its weekly pay, not sure on the hourly rate tho! as long as i can afford some hula-hoops after my rent im a happy bunny!
