RM Truro hosts road safety meeting

Cornwall County Council Road Safety Unit has launched a new campaign highlighting the dangers associated with driving for work.

The campaign will target a number of businesses in Cornwall which have members of staff who drive as part of their job.

Last week, officers from the road safety unit attended Truro delivery office, Newham, and highlighted the risks associated with work related driving to over 50 members of staff who drive as part of their work.

The staff involved, many of which are Royal Mail delivery workers, drive on a daily basis to deliver mail to households across Cornwall, in addition to driving to and from work.

Cornwall County Council Executive Member for Strategic Planning and Transport Matt McTaggart said: “Work related road risk affects many people who would not necessarily put themselves in that group, from van drivers, to sales people, to people travelling to and from meetings.

“The alarming facts mean that it is an important group to reach with appropriate road safety messages.”
