completely agree with you on this, if they want me to drive a van home and back to work, then i will start my duty time from when i open the door to the van!
great news for employees who live say over 5 miles away from the work depot. Also taking into account any hold ups they might have on the way and what if (god forbid) they have a RTA in this company van I think more thought is needed before any more local agreements are made....

Why is any office agreeing to van sharing or any other cost savings at this moment in time as all offices have been instructed by the union not to enter into any futher agreements until we have a NATIONAL agreement in place.
Been told today unofficial its going to be TRIED to be brought in our office soon ,we will see.
Thinking about the pratical side of things ,
Assuming you want a RM van out side your house 7 days a week,and every night ,what happens when someone breaks into it.We all know on this forum nothing will be in it
but what about the Criminals,might they just break into it or try to steal for a crime,do you think RM will be helpfull to you if this happens or get the CONDUCT CODE OUT?
If you take a van home then it is in your contracted hours, same as when you get in it to drive to DO next day. It has to be in your contracted hours otherwise you would not be insured...no?

Too hard too nick vans by hot wireing them now they just kick your front door down and threaten you in the middle of the night some times with guns.

So what happens if there are not enough people with a driving licence or perhaps a 'chronic' drink problem. If there are not enough people willing to drive, and why should they be forced to do so, then the system cannot work. If they are forcing the change through with EA, it is another drastic change in the working terms and conditions of your contract and should be resisted.
brilliant, in our depot the other morning DUM was adamant that his idea would work ,so he loded the goods onto the van (two walks,parcels,regestered mail and a firm delivery)and guess what?????..... it was full! and he had half a york to go FFS!!! ...where do they get em from... his face was a picture as he stood in front of the rep and a postie!! ....

It's Royal Mail's own insurance so I'd guess you'd be covered.
