OK I'm wrongisland_boy wrote:im reading the exact same website, look at the pages for vans not cars, unless royal mail are going to give us all company cars your link does not apply
You will pay tax on a company van made available to you for private use as follows:
until 5 April 2005, if it is available for private use (including commuting)
from 6 April 2005, only if you actually use it for private journeys other than commuting.
This page provides links to information to help you understand when tax will be charged if you use a company van and how the charge is calculated.

Re: Van sharing for delivers
great news for employees who live say over 5 miles away from the work depot. Also taking into account any hold ups they might have on the way and what if (god forbid) they have a RTA in this company vanisland_boy wrote:completely agree with you on this, if they want me to drive a van home and back to work, then i will start my duty time from when i open the door to the van!wolfie citizen smith wrote:so in that case if its not private use, then using the van on company time before your duty starts and after your duty finishes, then you must be entitled to some from of overtime payment ?

Why is any office agreeing to van sharing or any other cost savings at this moment in time as all offices have been instructed by the union not to enter into any futher agreements until we have a NATIONAL agreement in place.

Been told today unofficial its going to be TRIED to be brought in our office soon ,we will see.
Thinking about the pratical side of things ,
Assuming you want a RM van out side your house 7 days a week, and every night ,what happens when someone breaks into it.We all know on this forum nothing will be in it
but what about the Criminals, might they just break into it or try to steal for a crime,do you think RM will be helpfull to you if this happens or get the CONDUCT CODE OUT?

If you take a van home then it is in your contracted hours, same as when you get in it to drive to DO next day. It has to be in your contracted hours otherwise you would not be insured...no?

Too hard too nick vans by hot wireing them now they just kick your front door down and threaten you in the middle of the night some times with guns.Puppetmaster wrote:Been told today unofficial its going to be TRIED to be brought in our office soon ,we will see.

We've agreed to nothing, it's being forced through by EAsaga wrote:Why is any office agreeing to van sharing or any other cost savings at this moment in time as all offices have been instructed by the union not to enter into any futher agreements until we have a NATIONAL agreement in place.

Re: Van sharing for deliveries
So what happens if there are not enough people with a driving licence or perhaps a 'chronic' drink problem. If there are not enough people willing to drive, and why should they be forced to do so, then the system cannot work. If they are forcing the change through with EA, it is another drastic change in the working terms and conditions of your contract and should be resisted.

It's Royal Mail's own insurance so I'd guess you'd be covered.silverback wrote:If you take a van home then it is in your contracted hours, same as when you get in it to drive to DO next day. It has to be in your contracted hours otherwise you would not be insured...no?
