Where i worked there was always a blimin' presentation going on, nearly a weekly occurance. Probably depends on your office and how much of a c your DOM is?

You would at least expect a card and a "thank you" for 30yrs wouldn't you...?

I was helping out at a small local office and was there when one of their long serving (33 years i think) postmen retired.
His colleagues had bought him a card and a present but other than that he got nothing, no thank you, no card ,nothing.

I was disgusted as were his friends, what an utter contemptible shitty company we work for.

We recently had someone go who'd been with RM for 41 years.

He got a speech from the area manager and some bottles of wine in a tesco carrier bag. He also gave a lil speech and that was that.

As we're a large MC we've had literally hundreds of people leaving on VR/EVR over the last 4-5 years,
many with 20-30+ years service. Some just leave quietly with no-one, or just a few mates knowing.
Some have had a leaving drink with their mates. Others have clubbed together and put £100 each
into a 'float' behind the bar at a local pub for anyone who wants to come and have a drink with them
and say farewell.
There is nothing from Management.
When I go, I think it will be quietly. I don't expect or want anything from Management.

Ditto I will just sneak off quietly too, I don't have that many mates in the SO, the few that I have, I actually trust and like, the rest are mostly backstabbing small minded gossiping twats, at least I don't have to see them after work , I'm only there for the money, I have a social life outside of work and live in the real world, they don't.

we have had a few leave and had no acknowledgement from the dom when we have had a whip round from staff and want a presentation and ask them to present something ,they have all the personality and presence of the speaking clock.no appreciation of their work nothing.

Lets face it, they just don`t give a s**t.

We are simply numbers that they can replace anytime they want with the next monkey waiting in line for a job.

Used to work for another compnay & a guy retired after working for them since he was 15, a party was thrown, speeches done, chats with the managing directors, they gave him a good send off.

Shame he died about a month later due to the shock of going from working 50-60hrs a week to working none at all.

RIP.

Happened to many ex Posties quite a few clogged it a few months down the road, one guy was really popular and many reckoned had he stayed on, he would still be alive today.

When I retire I am going to line up some part time work or activities that will keep me active and outside the house, don't want to be mistaken for a house plant.

what does your office do when a long term postman leaves ?? i ask as we have just had a postman with over 30 years on the job ,leave with no collection or card or even a mention by the DOM , he was just there one day and gone the next is this now normal practise ??
he told me he could choose a gift from a catalouge but there was no presentation i thought this was very sad that the firm thought so little of him , what do you all think ??

That is f***ing disgusting 30 years without so much as a cheerio,
Many years ago in Dunfy ,we would have collections for everything from engagements,weddings,funerals,and at Chrimbo long term sick, it all seemed to slow down for a while,but now
most of the collections are done by Ronnie Rubberheid or Skippy both v.good lads,they buy the cards,get folk to sign them and give the money , the last presentation i can remember was to Jimmy,who was presented with a framed docket(remember them) as he was the docket king,about 4 years ago the union organised a night in the The Village Inn when Toonhill Jimmy retired,think only about 20 turned up,but we had a damm good night.
Do leaving collections,nights out,piss ups etc happen in other workplaces? do they happen in other countries?

they dont seem to happen in my Office anymore, I think the sense of Community died out years ago.
