packet sizes for cycle deliveries

When was the template agreed? Managment in my cluster tried to put into the flexibility aggrements , but the 3 reps in the cluster and the ADR would not agree as it hadnt been agreed at HQ level, so in the end it was agreed they would not be used untill there was a HQ level aggrement/authorisation.

We've had the template for a while. Too late to get it unagreed now.

on one hand the driver cannot chuck back anything that wont fit it, but on the other we have to take everything that will. No matter how unwieldy or heavy.

If you take a packet out, say shoe box size, and they are out, what the heck do you do with it when you get to the next pouch box? Leave it? Then do you have to go round all your boxes picking up packets and taking them back to the DO? What if they weigh more than 11kg? In fact, how would you know how much they weigh? I never did figure that out.

In practise the only thing you can do is leave pouches with undelivered parcels in them at the drop-bag point. you are often told "never carry more than the permitted weight, and never carry more than one full pouch at a time" If it takes longer, book the OT or cut off. And dont you have any scales at your DO ? You should do. How else are you to know whether you've exceeded the weight limit or not ?

There is a weight limit either 1.25 or 1.5 kilos,it's in the lighten the load booklet i think.

You take what you can and leave the rest to the packet man, it's all about common-sense and considering that job and finish is gone nobody should be rushing around anymore.

Common sence is fine if you have a reasonable driver. Mine is a moron. We use hcts and aditionally have drop bags. His philosophy is that you have drop bags he shouldnt take any packets! Now every borderline decision is taken by the lino. I love giving him the border liners for the awkward drops now. The thing is this geezer was an absolute disaster on a walk. If we get a resign soon, (i will love it when he gets a shite walk as hes only very junior)

But at the same time so are some of the walkers.

The template is bollox,way too big,we don't use it,and if for whatever reason we were forced to,say to stop arguments,i would'nt take any notice of it as it favours the drivers.

As for this shoe box rule,how the f**k does a walker take a shoe box ffs!

Wish you were my driver mate! At my place the worst drive is better than the best walk so they still have it easy, finish early all the time etc.They all get in early and are out doing packets as soon as we`re off the ips, hence any big ones (ooh err missus) that i have in my packet bag send him bonkers as hes already been there. I am a reasonable guy and used say to leave them with the drop bags if i hadn`t been to that area beforehand, but now i will take sweet FA for him. It didnt help that he left me and another walker waiting for 45 minutes in the snow waiting for our drop bags last month.

I've just checked the lighten your load doc in the download section. It gives maximum pouch weights but not maximum individual parcel weights.

I'm lucky with the duty I do. The guys who I take the parcels for don't generally take the piss and I know that if I do get an "iffy" sized packet thrown out, it's for a good reason so I take it for them.

However, there are 2 guys who cover 2 of the rounds I deliver for and they throw out all sorts of shite. I just throw them back out again unless they've been signed by a manager.

We do, yes, and I weigh my bags every day. What I meant was, if I went round my drop off points after last letter to pick up undelivered packets, I wouldn't know how much these packets weighed in total. There's no scales in the street. I could end up collecting over 11kg of packets to take back. This wouldn't really happen of course, I never have that many undelivered.

Another point is, if a packet fits through this device, you might take it. But if you have 25 of them, they all might just fit, but surely you wouldn't be expected to take them all? I often give the driver what might be considered to be ridiculously small packets, but only because I have so many. I'll try to give him ones that are close to each other, so I'm spreading my packets between bags.

I know i've seen it somewhere,because some drivers down my way reckon the max weight is 2k then after that the drivers take!!
So i checked,thought it was there.
It will probably pop up over time,sorry.

So if you get 4 x 1.25kg packets 200 x 200 x 400 all for the same house, you give them to your driver. If you get same but for different houses you stick them in your bag. If this takes your (first) bag over 16kg, you split it up and have one send to your first pouch box. You trail along to pick it up when you need it, trail back to where you left off. If these four packets had no one home, you leave them in the pouch box, as they'd take your next bag over the 11kg max. Because you'd done loads of dead walking, you don't get back till after 2:00pm, and there's no one around to tell that you've left packets at various pouch boxes.
Best to give whatever you can to your driver. Mine might think I'm taking the piss, but he's never said anything. I'd love to have it explained to me about what you do with packets when you card them. You can't carry them around with you.
