PETS Candy and Storm are no longer dog-eared, thanks to Birmingham’s new pedigree pooch parlour opened by a woman who decided on a big career change.

From Springer Spaniels to St Bernards, Amethyst Dog Grooming in Great Barr promises to give people’s pets a style makeover.

Owner Lisa Corish has traded in a 20-year career with the Royal Mail to indulge her passion for pets to open the salon on Booths Farm Road.

“It was something that I always wanted to do, even as a child,” said the

40-year-old, who previously worked as a communications manager.

“I thought ‘I don’t want to be sitting in an office for the rest of my life’ and there was a gap in the market.”

After completing a City and Guilds qualification in dog grooming last year, Lisa then got her paws on a lease for the shop, which is close to her Great Barr home. Her professional service includes bathing, clipping and styling dogs to their owner’s specifications, along with a range of pampering products for the pooches to take home.

Lisa added that a lack of space to groom her own dogs at home provided the inspiration for her salon layout.

“I have two Alaskan Malamutes who are quite big and I always groomed them myself, but my own bathtub wasn’t big enough to fit them,” she added.

“I have made sure that the bath in the salon is big enough to fit even the largest of breeds.”

Lisa’s salon has proved so popular that she already has 150 doggie clients on her books and may have to take on extra help to cope with demand. “We have been here since october and its been going really well,” added Lisa.

“I’m being recommended by a lot of people by word of mouth but we are getting a lot of business from people coming past when they are out walking their dogs,” she said

You made a slight mistake, it should be 'Used to be being growled at by someone further down the food chain perhaps'
