Good Friday Night shift

Post by the beautiful bd south »

Having enquired with our office manager it appears the night shift will have there usual waste of space day off of (Thursday Night/Friday morning) for Good Friday then have to attend work at midnight on Good Friday through to Saturday Morning.

I really don't see the point in this, wouldn't it make more sense to work Thurs/Fri and have the Fri/Sat off as the bank holiday..

Is this the norm all over the country?

The office I work in is being a bit shady, I work nights and we usually get the Friday night off and work the Thurs night/Fri morning - This has changed recently though ..on boxing night we had to come in at midnight.

The other night, managers were asking all the full timers if they wanted to come in on Good Friday, but did not ask the 8 people including myself that are on 32 hour contracts. I have since learnt that the full timers get the day off and can come in on overtime while the 32 hour bunch to come in as normal (or maybe midnight) - for nothing.

I have checked my contract and it lists both Boxing Day and Good Friday as days off, I feel shafted coming in at midnight but this latest trick of theirs really does take the biscuit.

Does anyone have any similar experiences/advice.

Many Thanks.

Have at look at part time workers regulations 2000. You can't be treated any differently than any full timers.

It could be worse: In my RDC, we have to put our names on a list, if we want Good Friday off. If there's not enough people willing to work, to maintain Staffing Levels (for a normal day). They choose who gets the day off, and who is forced to work.

Those who do work Good Friday, book it as Bank Holiday Overtime. I've often been forced to work it. But because it's considered to be a normal working day, you can't refuse to work it. We just book it as overtime, in order to get more money, or a days leave, to use later, because it's a Bank Holiday.

They may try and get round it if the FTs shift start before Midnight so still a Public Holiday and the part timers after mid night when it isn't. Would be unfair as hell, but we all know what RM are like with loopholes.

For us its in as normal Thursday (22:00 start) with the time between 00:00-06:00 as overtime, then Friday in as normal with the time between 22:00 and 00:00 as overtime. Anyone that doesn't want to do the overtime has to go home between midnight Friday and midnight Saturday. I've not heard yet what we are doing for Easter Monday but I suspect that either we will be in as normal at 22:00 with the 2 hours between 22:00 and 00:00 done as overtime or we will be in from Tuesday midnight. What's hours is everyone else doing Easter Monday?
