Nice to see you back Brother but your showing your age! Its an SA80 or a fancy digi camera now! LOL.

Good to be back LP - slowly sliding myself back into the habit after my old PC died on it's a*se :Very Happy

I still prefer the SLR - better chance of a "one shot stop" with 7.62 than 5.56......don't believe me? Have a look round for military forums, I've seen one or two US Army forums that aren't too keen on the CAR-15, they like the M60 & M240 & all of them love the stopping power of the M2 ( "Ma Deuce" )
SLR any time for me - SA80 and all its revisions is and probably never will be "Solider Proof". I used SLR for 8 years 1 stoppage - L85 about 1 or 2 every time it fired more than 100 rounds.

Wonder if it was designed by AL or AC, it was certainly designed by a committee.

shaunman wrote:I know this may sound stupid and impossable but why dont all royal mail staff buy a share in the company. It could be done by paying a contribution of say £20 a week each, with 160,000 staff that would be 3.2 million a week. Over a year that would be around 150 million. I dont know if this is the kind of investment required. It could be a 5 year plan.

I think it would be a positive move for many reasons and would give the staff and cwu the power to change things within the organisation.

1. We could look to make all employees full time (who wanted to)
2. Be more willing to be flexible
3. Gain a profit share of the company for life
4. Not have to work for a foreign company that are only interested in profit
5. People would be more positive about the company

If any one has any thoughts or if it has been suggested before let me know.

Leighton wanted us all to have real shares but government refused. Wait till you see how much profit the minority shareholder clocks up on the value of its share over the next few years when it sells it to someone else, then you'll wish Leighton had managed to push it through. Too late now.

Good point NT. A fact constantly overlooked by the media is just how much are TNT going to be making out of RM if they get the 'minority' share. I bet it won't be £2.50 and a bag of chips.

Yes, there are drawbacks and uncertainties, but i like the idea of the workers owning and running Royal Mail. An ESOP Employee stock ownership plan,is like a leveraged buyout. An employee trust borrows against the company's future earnings to buy the business. As the debt is repaid, shares are distributed, so Royal Mail would be ideal candidate. Giving away 30% to some foreign company and having them run it must be stopped.

Great Idea,
The Govenment hold 51.1%, Out of the 49.9% left all the employees could hold 20%, the unions could hold the remaining 29.9%. Job done

And when the Tories get in they would sell off the 51.5%. :mfo

Its been reported that the Tories are looking at the Bill and is likely to approve of it, know they will get in and sell the rest, time to jump ship then probably.

WE already own Royal Mail :confused There is no reason for us to buy any shares in it just for the government to put in someone who knows how to run a labour intense organisation and not a couple of muppets who are only interested in their own bonuses.
