I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: 1 van 2 people 2 rounds
Former postman your wrong on both accounts. Under the industrial relations framework the local rep should be involved in all aspects of what goes on in the office. In any case Royal Mail wanted the national union involved in the trial at first but as usual when it was pointed out some of the flaws to the trial they procceded without the union and without the safe guards of a national agreement.
With regards to being opposed to automation well that is simply not true. Flat machines ILSMs etc have all recently been introduced in mail centres. In Gatwick we have seen the introduction of walk sequencing.
Dont believe what you hear or read in the press. The polictcal editor of the sun tried to say on question time we had stopped machines coming in it was a barefaced lie. The truth is that Royal Mail took a 1.2 billion loan off the government during the last dispute as they said they needed more machines urgently including walk sequencing. Last October they announced that they were delaying walk sequencing for another 12 months except for Gatwick and the existing sites. In fact they have got 600 million left unspent from the loan. Could the fact that they didt spend it or the fact they delayed walk sequencing have any thing to do with TNT and partial privitisation.
The Union is not opposed to change it was us who orginally requested one delivery as by then 95% of mail was being done on the first leading to an increase in part timers. We have lost over 40 000 jobs in the last few years and are as efficent as any other european postal operator apart from walk sequencing.
However it is the CWUs duty to ensure we have an agreement in place to protect full time jobs in the future from Royal Mail`s automation plans.

Automation = less jobs. Why protect f/t jobs when they will be surplus?
Theres no getting away from it. I hope and believe that the Govt/RM will put measures in place to make sure there are no forced redundancies, as has been in the past but if this new machinary is to come in then there will be less posts.

This is not good due to
how it will affect reserve post delivery person - If I work with different people every week. Sound like a nightmare waiting to happens.
The program about energy say Fossil fuel will run out in 20-30 years time and Royal Mail will have another headache waiting to happens.
What happens if you have people coming in early and you don't.

i didnt have aproblem with park and loop as such
however i wanted answers before a vote
eg do the 2 people get the same day off
what happens if they dont and the one who drives(assuming the other doesnt) is the one who is off and the floater doesnt?
how are walks being arranged,is it still two frames and then tied up as required or is it one big frame.if so how is it split.
the argument you can do the van call packets as you are doing the mail is fine for a main door
however how do you deliver to a stair while carrying all the mail and a big packet to the top?
re-sign;how will they work it given you cannot have 2 non drivers on a shared duty so seniority cant be fully implemented
plus loads of other points

Re: 1 van 2 people 2 rounds
Looks like a total mess. For a Start in Our Office the walks are already large with little or no leaywayif job is done correctly. How does a van save you time,May be easier but do not see much quicker.Having to deliver all packets and specials for 2 rounds is just going to increae your time.
Who signs for the Specials from the Locker, and who is responsible for them.
Are their 2 drivers, what happens if you cant get on with the other guy?

Re: 1 van 2 people 2 rounds
the same was said in our office!! also they told nobby, sorry i mean DOM, with sharing a van does not matter how many posties you have on the said van be it 2 be it 10 that van can only go to one address at a time with pcls. recds. specials , so how the f...k can it be quicker...DOH!Puppetmaster wrote:Looks like a total mess. For a Start in Our Office the walks are already large with little or no leaywayif job is done correctly. How does a van save you time,May be easier but do not see much quicker.Having to deliver all packets and specials for 2 rounds is just going to increae your time.

Re: 1 van 2 people 2 rounds
It isn't any quicker and much of the work is left, though they now say the delivery span is 4.15 - which means the guy who thinks he is only going to take out his former 3.5 delivery in his car is 45 minutes short and of course he would have to do his share of driving. What I find galling is the fact that RM have ploughed ahead with this without regard to whether or not a postie wants to drive an RM van, so if people say I don't want to drive what are they going to do?

Re: 1 van 2 people 2 rounds
I'd be happy to do it if it was just my present delivery and the delivery next to me on the map with the only extra work being any packets that would be delivered in another van to that area, therefore taking on some extra work and making savings but I know they'll try to take the piss.

then you have the issue of areas with businesses that are no van calls for example
near my present delivery we have a full 'street' which is just industrial units and a specific van duty

Re: 1 van 2 people 2 rounds
Just reading through posts and am really, really frustrated
as a former postie with respect you most probably don't realise what the rounds or the weight issues are like now, and as for coming in early to make it work
when will you learn that this means it is not working, but you are making sure that you will have to work for free all the time, and using own cars and then no CWU involvement, have you ever worked in an Office with no Rep? my head hurts
!!!

To be honest it's exactly the same as mine but a small trading estate rather than a street. Taking that on would be too much.custard wrote:Mr Blonde wrote:I'd be happy to do it if it was just my present delivery and the delivery next to me on the map with the only extra work being any packets that would be delivered in another van to that area, therefore taking on some extra work and making savings but I know they'll try to take the piss.

Re: 1 van 2 people 2 rounds
well the information pipeline has managed a drip today
as we stand in one postcode section we have 35 walks
this will be reduced to 30
these will then be split into 15 driver duties and 15 non driver duties
then we will have an office resign

We lost 3 bulk van duties when they started park and loop - small industrial estates added to the existing duties - you see with 2 people doing 45 minutes each extra that means 1.5 hours extra delivery.Mr Blonde wrote:To be honest it's exactly the same as mine but a small trading estate rather than a street.
