packet sizes for cycle deliveries

can anyone tell me if there is a national agreement on the size of packets your supposed to take if you are on a cycle delivery. we are constantly being made to take larger and larger packets and are told by management it is the national agreement.

There is an agreed size and a template is available which fits over a DBF.
The packet concerned should be able to pass through the template on all axis to make it acceptable - also as I understand it, items such as posters in tubes should not be carried on cycles as it is difficult not to have them protruding from either satchel or pannier with the attendant risk of them catching on things.

Getting your manager to accept and implement the above system is however unlikely - I wish you luck (and more parcel/driver duties)

Once my manager refused to sign out a parcel wth a pair of shoes in it.

His excuse were they were in a bag not a box.

Well, some people do chance it with Drivers, but it cuts both ways,some driveres get away with murder!

I find a bottle of whisky at Christmas keeps my driver happy, any border line packets of mine he takes no questions asked. But then I don't take the piss either.

Drivers eh - some are good some are total to*****! I try to be reasonable and don't take the pi** but it depends on the driver and the manager, I've spoken to a manager about having too many packets in one bag and to be fair a few got taken off me!

Shoe box size is what I was told when I was on a cycle duty - stupid really as that takes a hell of a lot of room in a bag, but management don't consider such minor points as that...

Work to your time, split your bags down, make a point about it - you can only carry so much before the bag becomes a H&S issue!!

foot walks in our office are getting hammered
i can often have 3 blue pouches of P739 packets plus loose ones too big to fit in
all because the drivers say they cant manage the packets
well park & loops coming in now so we shall see what comes of that

When was the template agreed? Managment in my cluster tried to put into the flexibility aggrements , but the 3 reps in the cluster and the ADR would not agree as it hadnt been agreed at HQ level, so in the end it was agreed they would not be used untill there was a HQ level aggrement/authorisation.

we tried the template but gave up and used good old commonsense.

the main part of my duty is parcels ,don't get me wrong, the majority of the guys are reasonsable about taking their packets, but some come and say ,"i'll not get the punters in--you'll have to take it"--,This really does my nut in-especially when the packet is just a wee bit bigger than letterbox size

I personally have never taken the p*** with packets, but our van driver gets a bit stressed when its busy, and chucks packets back at me.I went with this for a few weeks, then told her that I will be leaving packets in the pouch boxes, if she puts them there, after I`ve chucked them out. Funnily enough, its never happened since..How bizzare eh?

If you take a packet out, say shoe box size, and they are out, what the heck do you do with it when you get to the next pouch box? Leave it? Then do you have to go round all your boxes picking up packets and taking them back to the DO? What if they weigh more than 11kg? In fact, how would you know how much they weigh? I never did figure that out.
