It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Our office is so short on staff, I started doing bits of other walks within the first week that I started there!

Re: Lapsing walks
We`ve been doing lapsing since last year, June I think,we got hit with Geo-route and lapsing in one week, the lapsing bit was only 15 mins split between about 15 of us but was still a pain in the ass to do, as for a few it was miles away from our delivery, now they want us to do 1 in 5 lapsing and take another two walks out of our section.something like 10 duties office wide are going!
Royal Mail managers.....about as popular as a t.urd in a swimming pool!

Re: Lapsing walks
I think it depends on how big your walk is?, Say your walk only takes 3 hours and they want you to do an extra bag of around 30 mins you cant really complain. However if your walk is 4 1/2 hours and they want an extra bag that is not fair, will see how it goes

Re: Lapsing walks
As far as i know IF your own delivery is going to take 3.5 hrs THEY CANNOT make you take the extra bit. if they bully you, take note and report.
Take full breaks, don't use your car etc etc

Re: Lapsing walks
Our office is just about to have a new DUM why you may ask, well we need someone who is more cut and thrust, dynamic ready to get changes in fast, they have chucked the known idiot out who could see that we were getting very near to brick wall with no more room to move.so at WTLL we had a manager come in and tell us all the pretty bits like, how well the office is doing and all that bla, bla, bla then comes out with saving jobs, money and all that,he then said that they had decided to not cover walks when staff are off sick and that we would be covering walks between us,to add to that he then said we had to look at protecting our jobs as the mail was going down thing is when they tried it before it all went wrong so they had to stop it all, so it looks like we are all going to have this pushed at us.

Re: Lapsing walks
Unfortunately under the P&M agreement lapsing rounds on the 1st day of sickness has been agreed I think, along with summer lapsing. Its permanent lapsing that they keep trying on that has not been agreed.bandit650 wrote:Our office is just about to have a new DUM why you may ask, well we need someone who is more cut and thrust, dynamic ready to get changes in fast, they have chucked the known idiot out who could see that we were getting very near to brick wall with no more room to move.so at WTLL we had a manager come in and tell us all the pretty bits like, how well the office is doing and all that bla, bla, bla then comes out with saving jobs, money and all that,he then said that they had decided to not cover walks when staff are off sick and that we would be covering walks between us,to add to that he then said we had to look at protecting our jobs as the mail was going down thing is when they tried it before it all went wrong so they had to stop it all, so it looks like we are all going to have this pushed at us.

Re: Lapsing walks
our section has been 'summer' lapsing 1 walk since last year, 2 weeks ago we started lapsing 2 walks, along with my colleagues i book overtime for this. Cant see how this saves RM any money, most of use taxis to get there and we all book overtime. We recently had all the walks amended because the majority were too long, we've waited about ten years to have them adjusted. Now there adding to them again

Re: Lapsing walks
Our office is quite fair when it comes to lapsing.
We sometimes do it but only if we have time. The manager knows we all go off on one if its a busy day and he asks.
They can ask but we are in our rights to refuse if it means going without a break or finishing late.
Usually its a case of go out for 20 mins, come back and have break,go out on own walk when missorts come.
If its gone 9 when i've tied up=no chance i'm doing it.
