Soon as I saw the thread title,the first one that came in my head was 'Unit Rep',no question,if you are a decent rep,you get more hassle,grief and all round trouble than any other job,so 'well done to you all'

i disagree with those saying callers office is hardest it is boring i know that but the poor delivery posties go out in all conditions and get abuse from those looking their giro's and what about delivering all em pies to hq.

hardly get any release therefore have to carry out your daily job as well as being rep.
step out of line and rm go after you big style (how many reps been close to losing thier jobs).
lack of appreciation from a large majority of your office.

You never know what time u will finish and just as u getting used to a round you're onto another. In a large office u can do diff rounds every week for months. Part-timers also have a rough deal. Come in to see the full-timers have all their letters in while you have an empty frame. Then u are playing catch-up and don't have time for even a quick chat. Usually no break with the rest of the boys either. Then u are the last one there and it seems everyone else has gone! Can be demoralising and lonely at times being a PT'er.

i know what you mean
me being a part-timer im usually one of the last ones out of the do.
the mail is in the frame most days but knockdowns and re-directions are usually done by myself.

When I was a PT I would have agreed with the bit about PTimers but it is a case of swings and roundabouts I think. At my DO FTs only do the IPS and we have to finish it. Also when the missort run comes in and even if its a lot again only the FTimers sort it.

Sometimes this means that with 15 mins allowed at the start of the day to throw in some mech bundles we have some thrown in, but even if PTimers come in on time (50/50 here) 2 hours later we are still there sorting and they slow us down getting their mech bundles and hand sorted bundles.

If we are really pushed with the missort run its even worse. There will be 2 lines of posties at the IPS frame 1 line sorting it as fast as they can (FTs) and the other line stretching across when they see 1 piece of mail going into their box invariably slowing down the whole operation.

This is not a complaint but to me there should be no difference between PTs and FTs in a DO apart from the amount of hours you work, all this PTs can't sort, FTs have smaller rounds rubbish should be history by now.

There will always be some minor differences between duties and yes sometimes FT will finish IPS before PTs come in and of course they will throw of their walks before the PTs its human nature. But if FTs are sat around finished ready to go while PTs are still prepping their duties then more fool them the FTs that is. Get up and give them a hand perhaps then when FTs are busy on IPS PTs will help out. In my mind this would help defend against RMs divide and conquer strategy which seems to be working in some places when you hear comments on here that PTs or FTs have it hard or easy. Come on people help out if there is a big difference between duties then bite the bullet and address it dont let it fester and cause artificial divides, thats RMs job not ours.

To me this is one area that the CWU can get it wrong. There are people in my DO who think its wrong that PTs should help on IPS and that Managers should not help sort. I just cannot understand that if the work is there and people are standing idle surely its better for all of us to pitch in.

well guys ........i would have to say th delivery postie is the hardest job ...up early....then prep...then out with pouch pounding the streets....plus im sure you do get hassle from the great british public when your out and about ..also when you get back more sorting??? i for one applaud you guys me i just sort pkts and ltrs all day its boring and can be quite mentally hard as you go on auto-pilot when you have been doing it long enough so hard... nope so cheersguys first class you are

CEO has got to be the hardest. Spending all day ,two days a week stealing the cash from 130,000 pockets ,nicking their pensions,lying through your teeth to rip off honest unsuspecting folks just to secure a fat bonus,it must take its toll . I couldn't do it for £3million
