many many people think it's done in own time, at my place as well.
Something really should be done to educate the workplace, perhaps as mentioned a CWU mailshot.

Re: what is the official rule
Its not a big issue i suppose but its the principle really.I don't enjoy taking them but it annoys me a bit that i have to prep them in my own time when i can't even opt out of taking them.

Re: what is the official rule
Perhaps he could explain the concept of making you work in your rest time and how it equates to complying with the SDD agreement about breaks.clagnet wrote:This has to be done in our break time while waiting for the missorts.
.Providing meal break/working time regulation rules are observed, employees will have the flexibility to plan the timing and location of their meal breaks. This flexibility also extends to the ability to have a refreshment break prior going out on delivery as long as it does not compromise the office workplan
In plain English your break is for you to recuperate or prepare for the next stage of your working day. It is not to be utilised as a working part of the day unless to not do so compromises the office work plan. In other works you cant take your break when you should be on IPS packets or primary, but no way can they use this part of it to make you prep D2Ds can they

'Usually comes round badgering you if you're sat throwing them into the frame and says"do that in your break" or summat like that.'
This isn't just badgering it is bullying and intimidation. You need to take in the agreement and not mess around with this guy. Tell him straight..'This is the agreement currently signed upto by RM. It says d2d is done within duty time and that is it full stop. I will be prepping in duty time from now on'
If he thretens a disciplinary, smile and say be my guest as he HASN'T GOT A LEG TO STAND ON. I'm sure he is well aware he is lieing to you. They do it in many offices. A union rep just learned of the agreement from me as he was unaware so it is possible he is misunderstanding. But if so why is he "So sure' he's right? Where's his evidence? Ask to see the guidlines!!! They can do NOTHING to you for carrying out RM's your work according to RM's OWN rules!!!!!!
Be strong and don't take this crap. The managers get bonuses for keeping your OT to a minimum. This is why they act the way they do, for themselves, not for the company and certainly not for us posties.

Re: what is the official rule
I contacted HQ last year about this when the subject was rife on the board,ok i'm not saying i'm special or anything, but i mentioned the tons of posts we we're having and that it wouldn't hurt if an LTB was sent out reminding people of the agreement.many many people think it's done in own time, at my place as well.

So wheres the f***ing 'C' in the CWU?

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: what is the official rule
Are they jealous of RMC's poularity and ability to properly communicate with the CWU membership? At least when a question is posed on RMC there is usually one or two of the brothers and sisters who will give an informed answer in good faith.POSTMAN wrote:I contacted HQ last year about this when the subject was rife on the board,ok i'm not saying i'm special or anything, but i mentioned the tons of posts we we're having and that it wouldn't hurt if an LTB was sent out reminding people of the agreement.many many people think it's done in own time, at my place as well.

Re: what is the official rule
I find the best way is to take the download that is on this site, highlight the relevant parts and when they say as they do this is not agreed ask them to show you in writing (as you have) where it says it is not agreed but until they can you will go with the written evidence you have, smile sweetly and leave the room, that is usually the end of it! Another question I ask is 'if it has to be done in our time then that makes it voluntary, so we would rather not do them thank you' that has them choking too!!

We've been told the same, I also prep them during my break. When I asked the union rep he says we shouldn't prep them in works time, they have to be done in our own time.rowdogg wrote:thanks guys, just manager said prepping of d2d has to be done in own time. he'll argue black is white, hes one of those
A CWU mailshot would be excellent as the whole subject seems to cause so much confusion.

I prep my D2Ds at my frame before I go out on delivery and nothing's been said to me, I usually allow a maximum of 15mins per day to do my 20%/25% (in my office the reserve doesn't do them).

prepping D2D in your own time?
I was informed today, it "should" be delivered in our own time - but Royal Mail "allow" us to deliver it in our duty time
aren't they ever so kind?

The informant is wrong. If you deliver them in your own time, you must ask yourself how long will take. At 1.67p per item, the likelihood is you will be working for less than the minimum wage which would be illegal.

Re: what is the official rule
slightly off topic
the following has happened to me recently.
a few weeks back i was asked to do around 30% d2d and no other mail/packets etc and manager paid me d2d.
a few days ago i was in a similar position and was told by another manager that as i am only doing d2d and no other mail/packets i wont be paid any extra for d2d. as it stood i was put on another walk as somebody was absent.
is this right?
if there is no other mail to deliver and am only doing d2d how many % do i have to clear?
