Re: Are there any Good Managers
Yes, I would have to say that our manager is totally fair. He keeps most problems ih-house and believes that a stern talking to to supported by the local Rep is the way to deal with local problems. This saves it going out to dickheads who have never worked in a DO
I would say that on numerous occassions he has argued his point with senior management regarding lapsings and savings and we have not done to badly. Attending Reps meetings I am aware that there are complete dickhead managers out there.
What I do find is that the lazy careless dough heads in our office are his biggest critics. these are the people wrecking this Union.

Re: Are there any Good Managers
Postmen that become managers are the worst.......they seem to get taken to another planet & brainwashed, they suddenly dont remember how s**t postmen they were before becoming a manager.....so sad.
They use to want the CWU help all the time to keep them in their jobs, with so many mistakes they did.........going off route, bullying, AWOL, sick all the time & cutting corners.

I think that's unfair to tar them all with the same brush. I know a few VERY good managers who were posties and at least they've done the job.
Don't forget that managers get told what to do by their managers and if they don't do what they've been instructed, they'll just bring in someone else who will. Doesn't give them the right to act like plonkers though but still...

Re: Are there any Good Managers
Not neccessarily: We have one Manager (admittedly at an RDC, not a DO) who does what's right for his section. Instead of simply "following the RM line". He's often got into trouble for it, but because he's put himself on the line for us, so many times. He has the total respect of most of us.Aprilaydee wrote:islfor wrote:Postmen that become managers are the worst.......they seem to get taken to another planet & brainwashed, they suddenly dont remember how s**t postmen they were before becoming a manager.....so sad.

Sadly, he seems to be the exception that proves the rule.

Ours is a vicious, bullying, smug meglomaniac who in the real world should be taken out the back and 'taught' some manners.....harsh I know but true!

I think the above description is the model manager which Royal Mail will want for all offices in the future and all decent managers that do not conform will be out!canolman wrote: by canolman » Sun Feb 22, 2009 5:38,pm

There are 2 good managers out of about probably 19 to 21 at my office that are understanding and a great pleasure to work for.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

No it's not. But at least there are SOME good ones left. I wonder how much longer they can last, before they get ground down by their "superiors".

Most are scared stiff of losing their jobs and get bullied by their bosses in to bullying us.

Re: Are there any Good Managers
i don't know? i tend to avoid them as much as possible, our current manager (we've had many, they don't seem to last long) is a graduate trainee and been in RM for 2 years, never been a postman, he's very smug and sarcastic.
