Advice needed re: "Savings"

Post by mailmonkey »

Hi, I've mentioned on here before our manager has told us we "only" have to lose 60 hours (out of about 900) for our savings....

Apparently he "fought" the area manager down from 105hrs :hmmmm

He's devised a plan which involves cutting 4 duties from 40hr, to 30hr....and those duties, currently full time will have no sorting on them.....

So there will only be 2 full time sorters in anoffice of 20odd walks, the rest will be covered by [part-timers( who have 20mins built into their duties), and then by calling "All Hands!"....so part timers will ALL end up sorting, even those who have NO sorting built into their duty times.....

Anyway, the point is, the manager has said that if we don't vote "YES", then area manager will FORCE THROUGH 105hrs savings....

So, although we may vote that 60 hours is unachievable, he will push through 105hr savings....I know there's absolutely no logic there.....

We have no union rep in place..

Also the vote will be a "show of hands"....this will not take into account any staff not working on Saturday....and I would have thought a proper ballott would be required, rather than a show of hands....

The whole thing seems very suspect..

We are already at a stage 2 disagreement, instigated by the area union rep...

Don't vote for anything and whenever they force the changes through by EA just do your job properly ie. come in at your time, take your break and don't do anymore OT at all.

All Doms are using this approach, it is scaremongering at its worst, also blackmail and B&H they make me sick, I have heard this threat so many times, another favorite is if you don't agree to this the DSM is bringing in someone that can and I will be sacked!!! I have also known them bring in a bully boy manager to try and harass the rep, stick to your guns if you can't make the savings, if you can then that is a different matter!

And remember this if they do use EA. I am really fed up with members that are racing round 'because they don't have time any more' :arrrghhh :arrrghhh

Funnily enough, mine just told me this morning that they initially wanted 100 hours out but are now going to take 70.

From a post by Dingo in the union room

With regards to savings there was a conference call last monday of divsional reps and that reconfirmed the national policy that no savings should be given up in any office in the cwu until we get an overall modenstation deal which covers the unions aspritations of a sww , a committement to a full time job and improvements in pay.

Royal Mail at this moment in time are desperate to make savings within the bussiness. They are trying every trick in the book whether thats trying to get offices to agree to savings by recuiting part timers to full time in return for further savings or allowing vrs within the office. But dont be fooled and dont be tricked Croziers idea of modensation is to cut jobs and serivices year in year out. More over Mark Higson`s strategy is based on the simple factory appoach which is that no office should cost any more per item then any other and thats why the new regional structures have been set up to introduce standard operating procudures.
At the meeting on Tuesday all unit reps were infromed by the London Divisonal Reps that a number of stage 3 disagreements were pending in London including in W1 , WC1 , EC1 -4 , E3 ,E13,E14 with a few others fast appoaching stage 3. If management decide to take executive action in any office in London then the whole of london will be balloted for strike action. This policy has been endorsed by the whole of London and its a policy which will be activited.

This fight is not about whether an indivudual office can get the right deal for them this year. This is about whether we have the right deal across the uk for the next 5 or 10 years in every unit in the country. Be in no doubt every office who takes the easy option of doing a deal on savings is making part times jobs in delivery more likely. It might take the pressure off of that office but it is betraying the rest of the membership who are standing firm.

It is time to stick together and fight. Its also time to forget pay and mod as if you continue to focus on that you will not be concentating on Royal Mail s more sinster proposals.

Those of us who acitivly opposed the way forward moved on and succesfull fought Royal Mail`s SDD proposal including leading the biggest unofficial strike since the miners which achieved the biggest pay rise in cwu history as well as introudcing the 5 day week meaning a protential 48 days more leave on average across Royal Mail.

Are you up for the fight as we in London are !!

Everyone should remember that CWU and Royal Mail aint talking so no savings talk. Your manager is trying to make it sound that he is on your side, by talking down savings. Ask him how much of a bonus he will get if you sign up.

We've been told to lose 350 hours which is about 18% of our total hours

I've read this elsewhere on RMC. Apparently the CWU say "no discussion about savings without a proper agreement".
Not so, our area rep told our unit rep to get the best deal he can locally.
Just spilt stain-remover down my shirt. Now how do I get that out?

Ours is no discussion on any savings and AFAIK we're not because we're having our savings brought in by EA.
