dog attack

got attacked by dog today,nice little bloody wound on thigh,nothing too serious but neverless it could've been,still painfull and bruised,took an age to make contact with manager to report it,says he will make a report out tomorrow-my weekend off,but no problem he will ring me in morning.just wondering if anyone knows if entitled to a claim or not as don't think i'll miss work on tuesday.any advice please

If it was me I would also report the attack to the local police, I have done this twice. The first time the owner had a visit from the police and was told to keep the dog under control. And the second occasion, different address, the owner was arrested and when he appeared in court had to pay £60 costs and was told to keep the dog under control. Both attacks were in the street close to the addresses.

the dog was on a leash/rope but was in boot of car and jumped out as i walked upside of car,no time for evasive action owner was on drive and was very very apologetic

Did you report it to the police? Shame the owner was there i would of got it in a choke hold.

do i need to report it to the police?not been in this situation before,maybe my manager should've informed me of this he was called going to the address today then contacting me later but alas no call could have got the owner in a choke hold but he was pensioner age,don't think dog is a danger but then again they all are if you catch them on a bad day!!!!!

Yes you need to report it, the dog was unattended and not under control in a public place. You were injured as a direct result of a breach of the Law and as such it must be reported to the Police.

No, it wasn't unattended. The owner had just let it out of the Boot of the car, and it was on a lead. But it wasn't under control in a Public place. So that is still enough to require Police involvement.

Thanks very much for the correction, but unless you know something other than what has already been said, I'm afraid your correcting me with no good cause. The dog was on a leash/rope and jumped out of the boot of the car, the owner was on the drive and the OP was upside of car. That suggests to me that the dog and owner likely not together at the time, an assumption yes but no more so than yours.

That apart the dog had to 'jump out' of the rear of the vehicle then turn to head 'upside of car' in order to make contact with the OP, it wasn't under control regardless of whether the owner had hold of the other end of the 'leash/rope. If this happened whilst the OP was on the owners drive, then that is not considered a Public place, but the incident must still be reported to the Police.

would it not be too late to report it now as it happened on friday,also not required any medical treatment,just rang nhs advice line,they told me to keep an eye on it as they don't give tetanus for dog bites just antibiotics.thanx for advice to all
