PEOPLE in Larkhall were this week urged to sign a petition calling on the Prime Minister not to privatise Royal Mail.
The petition, launched by the Communication Workers Union, is on the official Number 10 Downing Street website at http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/Royal-Mail-Sale/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Last year, SNP MSP Aileen Campbell campaigned with communities to stop the closure of Hareleeshill Post Office.
Ms Campbell has now expressed her fear that privatisation of part of Royal Mail could continue to hit services that communities depend upon.
She said: “I would encourage everyone in Larkhall who values the role that Royal Mail and the Post Office play in our community to sign this petition.
“The UK Labour Government needs to get the message loud and clear that privatisation of the Royal Mail is a privatisation too far.
“Our postal services are a public service, not a commercial venture that can be bought and sold.
“Previous petitions on this website have helped to generate public awareness and encourage the Government to change its mind, so I hope this petition will also be successful in stopping the damaging privatisation of our mail services.”
