Longer Delivery times and the CWU Leaders.

Post by Puppetmaster »

Read the voice today, and one of the few bits of usefull info in it was
A,nothing fundementley wrong with PEGASUS, But longer delivery times are on the way.

I know many people who would strugle witha a so called RM 4 HOUR WALK,in our office walks are meant to be 3.5 hrs ,but in reality longer, many people come in early and work through their break ,even though we all have to go out and come back together.

What other industry would you have a break 2.5 hrs after you start and then do the heaviest and hardest part of your job without a break and without any toilets?

To me I HAVE SEEN A REAL INCREASE IN WORK RELATED ACCIDENTS AND ILLNESSES THIS LAST 6 MONTHS IS THE CWU LOOKING INTO THIS ,DO THEY CARE?

Do we want 4 hr +delivery times.Whilst the local reps do a very good job under difficult circumstances are the top union guys out of touch with the membership.?

IF i might be allowed to swear when was the last time any of our top union leaders did a heavy walk on a thurs or Friday,or even visit a office on that day?

So many people on both sides of the fence in RM still beleive we finish well early !

Its not down to RM or CWU to decide on having 4 hour walks, its down to H&S, the max is 3.5 hours according to H&S. If you work beyond this, then its your own fault.

Do the job properly, work to your time and hand back.

Its up to RM to sort it out, not you or I.

:Applause :Applause :Applause :Applause :Applause :Applause :Applause It just shows you the mentality of those who should know better!!!!! If H&S have spoken it's enshrined as law. It got changed after the good old Starburst system so why go backwards??? :d'oh!

3.5 hours is long enough :Very Happy
The problem is automation, once it kicks in and if its any good, indoor hours will be gone(so they say)so unless we get a shorter working week, then delivery span will be longer to maintain a full time job.Trouble is it will kill alot of people in the 40 plus age bracket imho.

Wash your mouth out with soap - a 35 hour week - sacrilege - :Very Happy How many times on this and other forums has the 35 hour week been advocated as a way forward - some talk of increasing the delivery span and others of increasing D2D - but no one in the CWU hierarchy has suggested a shorter working week as a basis for a 2009 pay deal. Having said that what about those on buy down and short contracts - lets say the guy with a 1 hour contract now what can we put his hour down to ? :wave

Who in their right mind wants a 1 hour contract? it's bad enough on a 40 hour one!!!! The 35 hour week is going back a few years when working time directive was being mooted and before we had the opt out clause. So if your'e late on the 1 hour attendance how much time is he/she making???? :shhhhh

Dvbuk every national officer who has spoken at AGMs and Briefings including the London Unit Reps meeting have advocated a shorter working week as part of the resolution to pay and the wider Royal Mail modernisation plans.

ypure looking at the 1 hour contract wrongly
for RM it means no holiday pay,no sick pay and total 'fexibility'
you get 1 hour a week, any other hours are as the business requires
so they get a full time/part time or whatever worker as it suits them day to day

BUT you didn't mention that as a basis for protecting full time duties - which it would AND it would be across the board. So if that is an option as opposed to D2D increases how many more options are there which include the whole of the workforce and not just a part? It would also bring short time contracts closer to full time and effectively increase pay for both because overtime would be paid sooner - no bad thing with the 48 EU Directive looming on working hours.

Though I don't recall there being a clause for a shorter working week in the 2007 Pay and Modernisation Agreement.

Would you forgoe a 2009 + 2010 pay rise in return for a 35 hour week at the same pay scale? I probably would. Less time i spend doing this shitty job the better.

35 hr week would suit me fine .a payrise which matches the rate of inflation would be adequate.
