PDA and Special Deliveries
So I was picking my stuff up from the locker this morning at 8.50am and was casually handed three 9am Specials for three different addresses in town, which were obviously physically impossible to deliver by 9. My question is, if I had scanned the barcodes on my PDA after 9, say 9.05am, would this have been 'flagged' to management as a failure to deliver by the required time? And would the **** hit the fan? Just a thought. I used paper and pen just incase.

No! It will only come back on you if the customer sending or receiving the item complains about it arriving late. I've done the same thing and used the PDA and nothing has happened.

Re: PDA and Special Deliveries
Actually it is not the job of the locker guy to inform you of 9 o'clockers - it's his job to inform the Manager concerned that there are 9 o'clockers - and it's his job to see they make the deadline.
We have a system whereby 9 o'clockers are ready for 0730, bulk specials for 0800 and all others by 0930 - including tracked items - in reality I do my best to have everything ready for 0800 - sometimes that is quite difficult when the last lot are only arriving at 0630/40 - we get about 300 a day and 20/30 tracked. I do from 5 to 7 and then another bloke comes in for the last hour.
Now here's a question - does anyone use the PDA in the callers office for returned trackable items - Recorded, Special, Tracked and then use the same system to record collection or redelivery?

Re: PDA and Special Deliveries
In ours the PHG has to scan the tracked items back in with his PDA but the rest specs, recordeds are tracked back in with the PHG gun thing, two diff systems i think, they used to use the PDA to scan them back in when we first got them but then they seem to have had a phone callNow here's a question - does anyone use the PDA in the callers office for returned trackable items - Recorded, Special, Tracked and then use the same system to record collection or redelivery?

Re: PDA and Special Deliveries
Thanks for the replies, apparently there is a software problem which precludes using the PDA.
Here's another question though - when the PDA is used on delivery and shown as delivered or not the information is supposed to be uploaded immediately - but the items are still shown on the RMGTT as active several hours later - should it not be deleted from the list. The guns are closed down by 1420 and some officers may still be out on delivery - if an item has not been delivered and has been uploaded as such it is going to be shown as delivered by default when the guns are closed - or am I wrong?

Re: PDA and Special Deliveries
the problem with the guns is the data stays on them until the data is cleared overnight
i can only assume the PDA data overrules the RMGTT guns unless the item is rescanned at the DO after the PDA scan

Re: PDA and Special Deliveries
It's not your fault if they're delivered late after only being given to you 10 minutes prior.
Some places aren't actually open until AFTER 9 anyway so I don't know how they get on about claiming any money back if we use our common sense and attempt delivery when they are actually open.

Re: PDA and Special Deliveries
Yes I realise we should be attempting delivery anyway and personally I would just P739 it but some of the lads I work with will go back after 9 and they don't bother scanning it the first time. They see that as good customer service and the people they deliver to agree.custard wrote:we should be attempting delivery anyway regardless of whether they are normally openAprilaydee wrote:It's not your fault if they're delivered late after only being given to you 10 minutes prior.

I'll bet the customer who sends it likes it too..Aprilaydee wrote:Yes I realise we should be attempting delivery anyway and personally I would just P739 it but some of the lads I work with will go back after 9 and they don't bother scanning it the first time.
