Those that say we should have a five day week must think of the consequences of their thoughts as nearly one in five would lose their job's it could be you!.

Theres no point even debating the issue. The Govt have no intention whatsoever of changing the USO, in fact it will probably be strengthened. Hooper & Co are committed to 6 days a week.

Its always been 6 days p/w, everyone knew that when they signed up...

Yes and the lack of privatisation was sacrsosanct too - nothing is safe in this climate and as for the USO - ha ha - that will be repealed faster than you can say jack robinson when the fancy takes them.

When I joined RM, business mail was a growing proportion of RM's traffic. Now, I'd hazard a guess that outside of Xmas, almost 98% of the mail in the system is business mail. When was the last time you posted a personal letter to anyone ?
If RM lobbied the government to relax the USO to five-days-a-week, you'd be more likely to end up with a Tuesday-Saturday working week, not Monday-Friday.
Why ?
Because - as someone pointed out - RM would be able to cut 1 in 6 jobs, and businesses would want / insist on their mail still landing on consumers' doormats on Saturday morning, should deliveries be cut to just five-days-a-week. Research shows people are more likely to read unsolicited mail at the weekends, when they have more time (in theory).
Just ask k979aaa. To quote from another thread, 'You would think our depot was a T.N.T or UK Mail center on a saturday and this is a royalmail depot?'

We've been asked for volunteers to come off their 1 in 6 and go onto having saturdays off.

They want to take 10 people off and then bring in 6 saturday only contracts and get them to deliver 10 rounds between them.

However, you'd lose any chance of overtime for that saturday as your round etc would already be covered whereas previously you might've been able to work part of your 1 in 6.
Does this rag smell of chloroform to you?

This forum is available to the public and children and as the rules say
Do not try to get around the swear filter, it is there for a reason, please keep any swearing to a minimum please.
In fact the last hour I have had to make 3 new masks to filter out the swear words you have used, could I ask you to cut down on the swear words as it adds nothing to any argument and I have received 1 complaint already.

Cheers :Very Happy :Very Happy

Our o/t day is Sat, hence we would lose money, unless it got changed to a 5 day week with the 5th day being an o/t day.
Just say NO ....to the new agreement.
