Underpaid Items
Can anyone tell me if it is right that the line managers can use there discretion as to whether to pesue payment for items that have been flagged by Revenue Protection or have us just deliver the items as normal. As in my office its seems to be regular practice that some items that has been flagged as underpaid by RP get put out for delivery. Surely this is theft/fraud?

Re: Underpaid Items
well revenue protection will soon notice if there is a massive deficit in charged items vs revenue collected

Re: Underpaid Items
actually they probably wont, as if the office is declaring these items as "refused" and sent back as dead letters then no one will be the wiser, there is no accountability for refused surcharge items so no deficit will appearcustard wrote:well revenue protection will soon notice if there is a massive deficit in charged items vs revenue collected

Re: Underpaid Items
If the items come through in the regular mail then how can they keep any records of it?

Re: Underpaid Items
If they come through with the normal mail I have a tendency of scribbling it out myself and just delivering it. Charging £1.06 to a pensioner (of which there are a lot on my route) is nothing short of disgraceful.

Re: Underpaid Items
Are you sure that they haven't been paid for on line and then put out for delivery? They should be endorsed of course but may not be.

Re: Underpaid Items
Items that are paid get endorsed as such, these are items where the address is not even carded first, just written on deliver today and put in my frame.dvbuk55 wrote:Are you sure that they haven't been paid for on line and then put out for delivery? They should be endorsed of course but may not be.

Re: Underpaid Items
The postie is meant to hand any surcharged items or any items them believe need surcharging to the RLE to be dealt with. They're also meant to cancel the stamp if it hasn't been done so by the machine.
I was told all this on my first day and I do it.
Some of our guys let them go cos they're cards etc but what's to stop anyone just sticking something inside a coloured envelope and hoping they'll get away without paying the full proper price.

Re: Underpaid Items
It's theft, plain and simple.
If the item isn't properly endorsed and your Manager wants it delivering then ask them to endorse it with their sig.
Posties should be sacked for this sort of behaviour too, you don't have the right to decide on these matters, you are stealing.
The same goes for redirecting mail once the redirection has elapsed, removing 'signed for' stickers, not handing in missed 'signature required' items, falsifying timesheet records and keeping/giving away freebies & DTD vouchers intended for 'moved on' customers etc. It's rife throughout the business, we all know of those who do it and believe you me, if I see it, I'm reporting it and I hope they get what's coming to them.

Re: Underpaid Items
How is a postie stealing, sometimes the idiots at R&P get it drastically wrong, costing people money to get to the DO to collect it.
Its 6p, not £1.06, 6p.
Id give the 6p to the gaffer myself if it means one of my customers doesnt have to travel to the DO just to collect something for the sake of 6 bloody p.

Re: Underpaid Items
RP items come into our office in a pouch marked 'Revenue Protection take straight to RLE' but the ones that come through in the code-sorted bundles
are just put through for delivery (I can never see why they get stickered as they look OK to me). I think a lot are just RM chancing their arm otherwise why not sent it through in the pouch.

Re: Underpaid Items
You are stealing revenue, effectively preventing your employer from money which is lawfully theirs.mclovin wrote:How is a postie stealing, sometimes the idiots at R&P get it drastically wrong, costing people money to get to the DO to collect it.

Whether you agree or not with it is neither here nor there, it's not, never has been or ever will be your decision to make on these matters. There are clearly defined pricing structures in place for postage, any failure to comply rightfully incurs a standard one pound administration fee.
By denying your employer this revenue you are effectively helping towards cuts, job losses, etc.
BTW, they can pay without leaving their home!

I think they would be making cuts and job losses regardless of a few stray 6p's.Himaggen wrote:You are stealing revenue, effectively preventing your employer from money which is lawfully theirs.mclovin wrote:How is a postie stealing, sometimes the idiots at R&P get it drastically wrong, costing people money to get to the DO to collect it.

In fact with my own eyes I seen the PHG scribble out the R&P sticker saying it had been paid, the fact was the guy couldnt possibly have paid it because he'd died a week or so before, the PHG just couldnt be arsed to write the card out.
If RM and R&P want to punish anyone it should be the sender as its THEY who have tried to steal. So all underpaid items should have any stamp cancelled and then immediately returned to sender. They do this with overseas mail.
