Small Parcels

Post by DemonPostie »

I'm halfway through my first week, and have a quick question. I know we are NEVER supposed to leave anything (small parcels, catalogues that don't fit through the slot, etc..) outside people's doors, but the guy who trained me said he normally does anyway, as all the buildings on my route are full of little old people.

What do the rest of you do? I would have had to write out about 12 "you missed me" note things today... I know "signed for" stuff should always be taken back, but how about stuff (contact lens solution...) in the normal post?

Never doorstep anything.
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

In a word Never!

Doorstepping as its called is not allowed full stop. However management did allow it in our office to shift light bulbs from stacking up in the callers office. (even then I think its dodgy).

I only do that with written authorisation, e.g. be it printed on the item or an arrangement I have with households on a regular basis. If in doubt you always card it and take it back. They hate waiting for me to come in from duty as I always have half of what I took out in the first place, not my fault they are all out at work.

Don't doorstep anything.

It's your job at the end of the day, RM tell you not to so if you're found to be doing so and someone complains, you could be shown the door.

I'd rather leave a docket. If they complain, state that if they put something in writing addressed to the DOM stating where they want things left, then you'll do as they ask. You're not trying to be awkward, you just want to make sure that a)these things don't go missing and you get the blame and b) you don't get the sack for doing something RM tell you expressly not to do. Your DOM can't really not back you up if a customer complains as you're only doing what they ask.

Lots of older customers have cats - look round the side or back (of the house - not the customer), for a cat flap. If the packet goes through it's delivered!
We wish to serve - but we will not be servile
