CHANGES TO GRIEVANCE, DISMISSAL & DISCIPLINARY PROCEDURES
Changes to grievance, dismissal and disciplinary procedures from 6 April 2009:
Great Britain
From 6 April 2009, the mandatory 'three-step' processes for disciplinary, grievance and dismissal procedures will be repealed (meaning that they will no longer be law and you and your employer do not have to follow them). These changes will apply to disciplinary and dismissal procedures started by your employer or to grievances you might raise in the workplace.
This means that for new cases from 6 April 2009 onwards, you and your employer will not have to follow the current 'three-step' procedures. This does not mean that your employer cannot follow them. If your employer chooses, they can continue to follow the statutory procedures even though there will not be any legal requirement to do so. Information on the current three-step process can still be found by following the links below.

"Today’s workplace has become heartless and soulless. Employees are seen as units of labour, automatons, functionaries, objects for achieving designated tasks, and as costs to be minimised."

Oh great! That means that they will be able to get rid of people quicker, and easier. It'll save them a fortune in EVR payments.

Re: CHANGES TO GRIEVANCE, DISMISSAL & DISCIPLINARY PROCEDURES
I was surprised to read that this has been in the offing since May last year and was actually finalised in November to come into effect in April. IMHO it is a backward step in employment law and does nothing to protect employees. Yet another reason to disaffiliate from the labour party and really the union leadership has never, at least to my knowledge, mentioned any proposed changes. There was only 172 responses to a survey carried out - perhaps it would have been more if it had been publicised a little better.

But it also means quicker route for wrongly dismissed or treated employees to get to a truly independent forum. However, there was one upside to going through the RM system in that it gave you chances to see the flaws in your position and strengthen your case. Mind you I am a glass half full person, my life experiences have taught me to always look at the best side of things where I can.andy2007 wrote:Oh great! If they'd publicised it, they wouldn't have got it through.

So, a policeman stops you & demands to search you based on no evidence whatsoever. You get out your mobile phone to video the policeman to ensure he does not abuse his authority or abuse you. Instantly you have now committed an offence! Even though you were innocent in the first place the policeman now can enforce this law, you are arrested & put in a cell, awaiting your sentence for a terrorist offence!
Great the Labour Party innit?
I remember tbeing so happy back in '97 too, how wrong we were....
And why do CWU still insist on supporting Labour...needs to stop..

Re: CHANGES TO GRIEVANCE, DISMISSAL & DISCIPLINARY PROCEDURES
of course royal mail will say the current procedures are not fit for purpose and we need robust procedures to face the challenges that opening of the markets represents.

Because Billy Hayes and others convince Conference to keep the link and not only that convince conference not to reform the political fund or the link with labour.
The question is why does it take a sell off before the rank and file political levy paying membership get a say?
One idea I think could be good is to have a vote every few years on whether to affilate/disaffiliate.
