Lapsing duties
Been told from Monday we have to start lapsing duties on Mon Tues and prob Wed as we are leaving the office early as the mail has declined. Anybody else doing this. My fears are once we start doing this we,ll be doing it forever.

Re: Lapsing duties
Don't know when but our rep has also been told that due to falling volumes there will be lapsed duties coming up - however under the pay and modernisation agreement only the indoor element should be carried out and any outdoor delivery work MUST BE ABSORBED WITHIN THE 3.5 DELIVERY SPAN and that should be the criterion used - if you can't do it in the 3.5. hours then you don't do it.
Oddly enough the managers have had their arses kicked for the amount of overtime booked???????????????????

Re: Lapsing duties
We're supposed to have permament lapsing but because of an increase in volumes we never have the time
(and that's their own figures from the MC which show an increase of about 10%).

Re: Lapsing duties
We lapse permanently, my office about 20 duties, one walk is permanently lapsed, and in summer 2 walks....
Looks like the indoor part of another duty, maybe 2 more duties about to be lapsed too on a rota basis....
Peeps bin getting told they can't cut off, and they can't book docket for it either...threatened with being taken off their duty if failing to complete....
We have no union rep in place and get shafted royal.... :lfo
Our lapsed walks are DAILY, every day, not just Mon and Tues....IN ADDITION, a few weeks ago there was a bit sickness going on, and manager told us we all had to divide up another walk, as he was "INVOKING FLEXIBILITY"...
Takes the piss a bit, so we had to prep and deliver our own walk, then do our parts of our usual lapsed duty, THEN do part of a third duty....
As long as we're making savings eh?
MM

Re: Lapsing duties
Holy Hell Mail Monkey their running rings around you lot, get a bloody rep.
Iv been told that the rep at ours will be tasked with saving 8%, and the dom wants 3 - 9 jobs lapsed. He says he will just tell them no jobs are to be lapsed because there is no such agreement for savings yet, they will have to wait.
Good lad!

Re: Lapsing duties
Our office has about 120 staff and is on Permanent lasping. What we need is for the UNION to come out and tell all there members and Royal Mail what We are Supposed to be doing because as far as I know we should all have Definate rules on when, where and how things are supposed to be working regarding this matter.
We all need the UNION to stand up to Royal Mail Now more than ever.................

Re: Lapsing duties
Can understand what you mean especially if you are not getting any support, but the union needs its members to work properly unfortunately a lot are not and then reps have a real problem arguing that there isn't any time in the duty for lapsing, when there are members cutting every corner going proving that there can be. WE as members ARE THE UNION it is easy to keep blaming a body but WE are the limbs. We all should be supporting each other, we are only strong UNITED this has been proven in other offices where they have stuck together.Geordie1 wrote:Our office has about 120 staff and is on Permanent lasping. If you have a weak office or a non union office the union cannot keep taking the blame!
As for telling you what you are supposed to be doing they have and do.....................Just do your job SAFELY, if you follow these rules you will not have time for lapsing and if you do have time then you really do have a small duty! But unfortunately members have their minds set on getting done as quick as possible and get on home.................sorry but those days are long gone!!

Re: Lapsing duties
If some actually stopped and took the time and saw exactly what was expected of them they would be more inclined to do only what was required and nothing more, thye may be inclined to remove their own goodwill. Mind you given that it only takes 1 "i'm allright Jack, butcher carving up the duty" how long would the removal of goodwill last
Confused... You won't be, after the next episode of. SOAP

Re: Lapsing duties
After summer-lapsing finished we were then told we would be starting absorption! They kindly stopped it over Christmas but now it's back and better than ever.. They say we would only do it when the figures show it being quiet enough - strangely the figures appear to be permanently low enough for it to be done.
We are allowed to leave the office earlier than normal when absorbing (if you can, not always possible due to indoor workload!) - no doubt a 'carrot' for the runners in the office! Anyone with an ounce of sense does their job properly. I've already booked o/t because of it, although each and every time the same managerial crap comes out about having plenty of time to do it - when will they listen? Next week I might work to my time, then work over the following week, just for the hell of it.
