VALUABLE items of people’s post have been stolen after a postman trying to deliver mail in the snow was attacked by two youngsters in Ipsley.

The postman was on a pushbike delivering mail in Field Farm Lane at approximately 12.15pm on Friday, February 6 when two boys approached him. They pushed him to the ground and stole his post bag from the basket of his bike, running off towards Greensward Lane.

The bag was recovered a short while later in the same road but with post missing from it.

The two offenders are described as white males aged 12 to 14-years-old. One was wearing a light blue anorak and a woolly hat.

DC Andy Baxter from Redditch CID said: “With many schools closed on Friday due to the snowy conditions, the area was busier than usual and we’d like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or can help us identify the offenders.”

Police are also keen to alert Ipsley residents to the theft in case they have items of mail outstanding.

A Royal Mail spokesman said: “One of our employees was attacked by youths who stole a small quantity of mail.

“Thankfully incidents of this nature are very rare in Redditch but we urge anyone who knows anything or saw anything to contact the town police.”
