Signing bikes in and out.
Anybody else have to sign PO bikes out every morning ?
Our line managers (DOM's on holiday) have just started this week insisting we hand in our bike keys to the security locker,
and sign them out every morning. And back in when we get back.
I know it'll stop people taking the keys home with them, but it seems a bit heavy-handed. Especially as we are being
threatened with the conduct code, on a H & S basis, if we dont comply.
It may be that this routinely happens everywhere else and our DO is belatedly catching up. That wouldn't surprise me.
Or it may be that our managers are flexing their muscles while the DOM's away. Either way, I've not heard of it before.
And if it is commonplace, can it be classed as a H & S issue ?

Just spilt stain-remover down my shirt. Now how do I get that out?

Our bikes don't have keys so there aren't any to sign out/in.

Re: Signing bikes in and out.
Been off this week but apparently this has started in our office as well. Either we work in the same office or its something they are trying to do all over the offices. Makes sense in that it stops people taking keys home especially when they have the next day off or are on holiday. On a daily basis we have people not being able to find a bike when ready to go on delivery.

Re: Signing bikes in and out.
Most of our bikes aren't locked (except for the 6/8 that are locked and nobody has the keys
) so it's usually a case of grabbing the first one that's free

No bikes at my office, but I have been 'counselled' for not signing my van keys back in.

I did ask what happens if I fail to sign my keys in on a regular basis, the answer was 'you get taken off driving'

Re: Signing bikes in and out.
All our bikes have locks, are serviced every 6 months and a cycle history maintained every time the cycle is either serviced or repaired for whatever reason. In the event of an accident/incident that service history would have to be produced as evidence of maintenance. There are areas close to us that have 150 cycles, we used to have 52 - it is now down to 16 and I think the reason for the attitude of signing cycles in/out is two fold one is an H & S issue and the other and more germane is they are trying to get rid of the cycles. I don't see the necessity to sign the cycle in and out every day as long as the usage is signed for, the exception would be for day off cover if there aren't enough spares.

Your bikes are better looked after than our van's!. Now what hurt's more a 10kg bike or a 1705kg van with no brakes MOT or TAX DISC!.dvbuk55 wrote:All our bikes have locks, are serviced every 6 months and a cycle history maintained every time the cycle is either serviced or repaired for whatever reason. Re: Signing bikes in and out.
I have been responsible for the cycles for about 6 years, prior to that it was a sorry state by and large. Our vehicle fleet is also well maintained and a consistent check made on usage, the garage is only 9 miles away and any repairs are dealt with promptly, vehicles are signed out and back daily however many times they are used. A manager at your office must be responsible for the vehicles so if there is a problem with a vehicle complete the fault report, enter the problem in the log book, which is also a legal document and would have to be produced in court in the event of an accident.k979aaa wrote:Your bikes are better looked after than our van's!. Maybe your walk is too big and a HCT would have you deliver to less drop points?.linkinpark wrote:Quote by dvbuk55! Most ex cycle users now use and prefer the HCTs.
LOL. You aint seen my walk then Brother! They tried a HCT whilst i was off and the postie went over by Two hours FFS. I havent managed that doing the job properly at Xmas. LOL. They didnt mention the experiment to me but as my wife drove me to the pub i saw this poor fella working with a HCT and within five mins + or - i had worked out when he would pass the pub and i was right! Funny yeah, for him NO as it was p*ssing down and yet again a new postie was done over by RM to try and prove a point against a duty holder. Funny they never mentioned it after, although cant think why! I just do my job properly and they can do one. LOL.

I commend you on your actions and if every area did the same we would all have less accident's and royalmail would be a safer place to be!.dvbuk55 wrote:I have been responsible for the cycles for about 6 years, prior to that it was a sorry state by and large. Forgive my ignorance, but what is an HCT?
