Two veteran postmen have become the toast of their village after chalking up a total of more than 50 years on the same rounds.

Tony Hampshire, and John Barnes, both 60, have covered tens of thousands of miles by foot, bicycle and van delivering the mail in Findon, near Worthing.

And they both insist: "We wouldn't want to work anywhere else."

Tony, of Ringmer Road, Worthing, covers the outlying homes and farms, while John, of Cedar Close, Worthing, does the heart of the village.

Their fans include Findon's most famous resident, Tina Cook, who won a bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Mark Pannell, the pair's manager, said: "In the line of work we do, there is a lot of staff movement every few years, so their length of service in the same village is very rare.

"They are a credit to Royal Mail. I think this will be their domain until they retire."
