Sending us home
What is the situation regarding being sent home due to adverse weather conditions? We were recently sent home because our mail did not arrive in the office due to OMV breakdown and the inability to get the OMV back on the road due to the snow. Are the management correct in saying the hours not worked on one day will be claimed back from another? In my opinion circumstances beyond our control should not mean me are penalised financially. There seems to be some confusion about exactly what the management can or cannot do. If hours are clawed back what can we do about it? Does someone have a definitive answer in writing that we can show to the management to prove them wrong.

Re: Sending us home
TBT posted the answer in an earler question on this subject. The short answer is no they cannot claim back the hours.
Adverse weather is not part of the flexibility agreement and OT should be paid if you have to go over later in the week.
Contact your union rep first but if they dont know then go further up the chain and it will be sorted out.

The time has come to stop turning the other cheek, time to stop shaking our heads in bitter dismay, time to stop mumbling our angry words.
The time has come for union.

POSTMAN posted it:
CWU HQ are receiving numerous reports and enquiries that as a result of the severe weather conditions, Royal Mail Managers are attempting to insist that in cases where our members are being sent home early from work due to unsafe conditions for delivery, collections, road services etc, the Pay & Modernisation Agreement and in particular the flexibility clause within that agreement, is applicable.
There is no provision within the Pay & Modernisation Agreement for the clawback of any time as a result of what is tantamount to an 'act of God' i.e. the severe weather conditions that the UK is currently experiencing.
We have had further reports that some Managers are attempting to have our members take annual leave, make good the time, or even in some cases Special Leave 'C' (unpaid) where they could not attend work through no fault of their own. Once again, our representatives should be clear that this has not been agreed with the Postal Department at CWU HQ.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: Sending us home
We were offered the chance to go home on saturday, due to all pavementsbeing like ice rinks.
This was on the condition, that we cleared today,(still icy, by the way!) and didnt claim any docket if we went over our times.

Re: Sending us home
Today was first day of delivery for a few days in our office,it was 50/50 as to wether we went out or not .DOM said he wanted us to clear as much as possible.
When asked if we stayed out over our time we would get paid docket,he was uncertain, said is DSM had told him not to pay docket, but if we stayed out we would come to some arrangement, what ever that means.
IT WAS OBVIOUS OUR DOM was in the middle of us and his DSM.Some stayed out some cut off.
