I have Read the Hooper report the courier and every thing Else, all saying falling letters volume.I CAN ONLY SPEAK ABOUT MY OFFICE,myself and most other posties just cannot see this.
When RM says mail is Falling dont they mean stamped mail. The amount of Down stream acess mail, mail sort ,catoluges, all on increase then increase of Packets.
Can we get to the truth is all letter volumes fallingincluding downstream access and mail sort ?
LETS NOT FORGET FLATS THE AMOUNT OF A4 SIZE LETTER ENVELOPES /cATOLUGES ARE ALSO INCREASIN IN MY OFFICE WHAT ABOUT NATIONAL?

Re: Falling mail Volumes
I can only speak for my area here: But we have noticed a recent drop in Mail volumes. Although personally, I think it has far more to do with the Credit Crunch, than the so-calloed competition. To be honest, it's getting quite worrying, as there's talk of 16,000 jobs going throughout RM. Particularly, as if we're right in assuming that it's purely down to the Credit Crunch. We'll be understaffed, once it picks up again. And all that expertise will have been lost.

Re: Falling mail Volumes
I noticed a drop of all mail on my round mid to late January, It's obv usually still busy or has been in prev years. I was starting to get worried but guess what, volumes through the roof again, 3-4 letters for every door. I think the credit crunch will take it's toll, but I suspect that more companies will use TNT etc to save a few quid rather than use us for mailings. I personnally deliver more direct access s**t than anything else. Saturdays I have a little game and count the Royal Mail letters as I deliver them. Six months ago it was around 50/50, this year so far it's 90/10 in favour of the competition. I've been told that the mail centres don't count down stream access mail in the traffic figures and though I've asked no one seems to know, which makes the traffic figures a laugh when no one knows whats counted and whats not.

Re: Falling mail Volumes
I've not noticed any reduction in volumes, lots of packets and flats these days but the letters have barely changed.
Of course they still want savings even though our office runs on OT.
