1 Don’t put a scarf round your snowman’s neck – it thaws faster than the rest of him, as we found out when we woke up to a headless beast in our back garden on Tuesday morning.
2 More than seven million people watched BBC news on Monday night, twice the audience of that time last year. This proves that many of us were eager to see if they’d have an excuse to bunk a second day off work.
3 Local councils care more about making money than keeping residents safe in the snow. Monday, Tuesday: no gritters, no traffic wardens. Wednesday, Thursday: pavements are treacherously icy – still no gritters, yet traffic wardens are patrolling the streets in pairs.
4 When the going gets tough, office workers, refuse collectors, teachers and the Royal Mail do not get going.
5 And when the going gets tough doctors, nurses, paramedics, journalists, energy firms, politicians and TV/radio presenters carry on as if nothing’s happened
