That last post by DemonicOmelette made me think . Could these 1hr contracts me a tactical innovation by AL and AC to undermine the Unions influence.
If the CWU called a work to rule, which they appear to be against even though there seem to be grass root support for it, then quite understandably the most pressure to break it would be those on 1hr contracts. :lfo :cfo

vbut please bear in mind that the Unions themselves are in a way responsible . They have allowed this to happen.
And the rot has set in---there has been a resounding silence/lack of action this past few weeks from H/Q.
I do not see any measures taken to at least preserve full time workers--rather the Unions are promoting all these
changes, What next? I say again.in the near future, there WILL be 2 tiers of staff-with the newbies coming in at five-
prepping up, and going out with first deliveries--the remaining old timers will be coming in and taking out second deliveries + junk mail. This is not far fetched just look carefully at all the 'trials' going on in offices--look at the change in shift patterns, contracts etc.

Re: One Hour Contract
If you joined the Union and only did one hour you would then be on minimum wage. I think the CWU should allow free membership to anyone on a contract under 5 hrs.
Run, rabbit run. Dig that hole, forget the sun.
And when at last the work is done. Don't sit down, it's time to dig another one

The Union should be fighting these illegal contracts.
And I say illegal because Royal Mail use these staff to work 40+ hrs a week constantly with pro-rata benefits. Bet these people cannot wait for their 4.5 HRS holiday a year after working flat out.
In fact it would take them around 16 years to get 2 proper weeks off. Ah well, guess they could buy 1.5 HRS each year...
