We've been told that they want another 100 hours out of our office (that's on top of the 140 from Pegasus).madelin4 wrote:Well our DOM says that all this about Job losses is just a rumour and its not trueWhy would he say that?

In deliveries he is right - it will be mail centres that feel the crunch, notoriously overstaffed and under-worked and with the advent of new machinery which takes fewer operatives and less maintenance there will be swingeing cuts. You can tell that from the closure programme - small DOs will be amalgamated but job losses will be minimal. There will be savings required but there is only so much you can do before the system becomes unworkable.madelin4 wrote:Well our DOM says that all this about Job losses is just a rumour and its not trueWhy would he say that?

How much will your pension be reduced by when you retire, now it is based on 30 hours instead of 40?stodgy88 wrote:i got £8000 for going from 40 to 30 hours been there just over 20 years

Your DOM is wrong all General Managers and soon to be regions have a target budget saving of 10% with some London areas reaching 12%. This will be taking hours out of both delivery offices , disturibution and mail centres.
The target savings based on the 10% is 16000 job losses.
With regards to mail centre clousres the rummoured plan is for 33 mail centres eventually especially if TNT have a stake in the Royal Mail. Currently we have 68 .
With regards to the delivery strategy delivery office amagalmations will mean job lossess as the plan is to no longer allow postcode boundaries to hinder efferniecy. So if its cheaper for a OPG to continue his walk into another postcode to deliver then thats Royal Mail`s idea of modennasiton. The same applies to vans. Royal Mail strategy is not to have a number of different delivery offices working from one building but to make them all one office. That way they can maximise savings/
The reality is that we are entering the biggest challenge we have ever faced. All members must back the CWU and fight for the right deal. That must mean we turn off all savings everywhere and then organise and campaign for a national ballot. This is a fight we cant fudge or afford to lose.

Re: Up to 16,000 Royal Mail workers may be axed
Unlike the fudge on the Pay and Modernisation then, BUT to get back to the current fight for the right deal - according to the press Royal Mail have called off the two day meeting in a fit of pique because it suggests the CWU is running the Daily Mirrors hate campaign - so how do we make the "right" deal if we can't get them to the table to talk? At local level how does a rep know what is a savings plan and what comes under the pay and modernisation and if there is a saving though it is obviously under the umbrella of modernisation should there be agreement or not? Perhaps you could clarify the conundrum.dingo wrote:Your DOM is wrong all General Managers and soon to be regions have a target budget saving of 10% with some London areas reaching 12%. Re: Up to 16,000 Royal Mail workers may be axed
Royal Mail intially called off the meeting but that was a front and have re engaged again.
Look how we get Royal mail back to the table is to withhold the one thing they want and need savings. Now in my opinion and what we have advised to our reps this is all savings and that includes pay and mod savings be it phase 2 or 3. Guess what if Royal mail dont like that tough as in my opinion if Royal Mail continues to ingnore and break national and local agreements we should withdraw altogether from pay and mod.

The problem is that because we have not agreed to any savings that RM want they are just going to implement them by EA, so how do you suggest we deal with that?dingo wrote:Royal Mail intially called off the meeting but that was a front and have re engaged again.

As we have always done local offices , Branch`s and divison fight it through industrial action and we campaign to have a national Industrial action ballot. Royal Mail and the Government do not want widespread industrial action at this juncture as they try and force a joint veture in.
However if Royal mail think they can get away with implementing their plans without a fight then they will. However in the areas they know they will get a fight they normally back off.
