How many delivery points on your walk?

Post by Caticus »

After being on reserve for over a year (never knowing where I would be sent the next day & no two days in the same place) I covered a rural round for a couple of months which only had 348 delivery points, which certain collegues seemed to hold against me (often complaining that they had 700+ houses to deliver to!) It still took me between 2 hrs 50 & 3 hrs 30 to deliver to depending on volume of mail & the fact that I don't use a vehicle & a lot of 'dead walking' to & from the pouch box & from house to house.

Well, at last I have been given a regular round (no longer working on rurals), I have 748 delivery points which I can do in 2 hrs 45 on a v.light day, of course much longer most days as the volume of packets & signed-fors on this round is just unbelievable!

This just made me wonder how many delivery points an average round as got? :Very Happy

The smallest I do is 450 (that's a deep rural that takes 6 hours) up to 700+ which only takes 3 1/2 hours, so it usually depends on how the duty is set up (how many gates/long driveways/call rates etc.) although Pegasus seems to think that all duties are the same. :mad

387 on mine, which is for a normal residential area. I have to admit it's quite an easy round. Quickest I've done it is 1hr 30mins, normally takes 2hrs 30 though.

Delivery offices seem to vary quite a bit in terms of the size of the standard round - the last DO I worked at, rarely had rounds with less than 500 delivery points - at my current one nearly all rounds are less than 500.

Thats a bit like mine, most urban deliveries are under 500 del points.

My delivery has 474 on it and is about right for a 6 hour day prep and deliver no IPS.

It various on walks. one walk have about 350 houses but they have football pitch length drives on it. Other walks have 550-650 mostly but there is one with 800 points. (I never done that)

I don't like doing more than 550 points if possible.

I have made a poll so people can vote but TBH, I don't think the number of DPs has any bearing on how long a walk is. Point in case in my section I am in the top 4 or 5 for drop points yet one walk on the same section has less than 300 and its not a rural, yet it takes them over everyday, so much that the Lineo now gives to to the OT monkeys as a cut off every day.

It all depends on the make up and distance between each DP I think.

Quite right on this, some walks have
yards between doors, long patheays and gates-other walks you can skip along.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining about the number of DP's I've got, the walk I'm on couldn't be much easier, it's completely flat, I have 3 terraced streets, 3 gated streets, a new open fronted housing estate (no gates or fences) & a housing association estate which is mainly flats which have their own front doors & no gardens, (only 2 flights of stairs in total!) I find the round much easier than the rural round I used to do even though there's almost twice as many delivery points on it, but far less dogs on it, which is good as I was bit twice while only being on the previous round for 2 months, saying that I'd rather be out on a rural round, it's a much more pleasant working environment, & you don't get anyone asking you for giro's in the street! It just used to annoy me when other posties complained about the no of DP's on it, when it just isn't a fair judgement as to the length or difficulty of a walk. :evil/mad

The only downside to having more delivery points for me is the extra weight from D 2 D's & the extra volume of packets & signed-fors (I usually need to get between 8 - 12 signatures a day) which is a total pain when no one is ever in & you do your job as it should be done (by the book!) :hmmmm

I got 334 but all detached large properties with long gravel drives etc. My first delivery point is just over 8 miles out from the office so its a 15 min drive to start and the same back. Normally takes about 4hr 15 min in and out of office. By comparsion my lad has a local paper round on the new style housing estate with 134 calls and i can knock this out in 40 mins :Very Happy
Rows of houses all bearing down on me........I can feel their blue hands touching me.......All these things in all positions.........All these things will one day take control..........

577 houses
1 shop

got some flats in there - 49 deliveries

out of the rest, there's about 100 delivery points of the "4 in a block" type (two downstairs, two upstairs ) the rest is semi-detached and detached - some with long driveways, and some with 2 sets of gates to open and close . . . lovely.

I also have 1 high school and 1 library - the van takes this out.
