Can Managers patrol in own cars ?

Ring the coppers up when you spot one tailing you and say that theres a dodgy looking geezer following me and I think he`s after my mailbag.

And the police will say they will investigate it as soon as they can, which will amount to interviewing you several hours later if they're not too busy.

Not true, one of the guys in my office reported a car following him and the police turned up in a few minutes to investigate (it was IB by the way).

If they have made it so obvious they were following what use would they be following real theives in RML?

we have an early warning system within our office.

we all have each others mobile number, as soon as a manager or an IB is spotted we spread the word by text

What is the offical purpose of patrol and is it agreed with the CWU at national level. Also is it really needed, in this age of being more efficient it seems like a big waste of time.

That's just what I did, I called the police when I knew damn well IB was on the lookout. They ended up getting arrested and I was called in office next morning lol 'I just said there was an old fart in a hi-vis vest following me

why should you go over to them to ask if they are ok ?

It's not a case of having anything to hide. It's insulting that a manager feels the need to be "looking over your shoulder". Why can't you show a bit more faith in your staff?
We have all come across one or two people who can't be bothered to work as hard as the rest of us. But they're a tiny minority. Why tar everyone with the same brush?

I realise that it isn't you personally, who is responsible for this policy. But surely you can appreciate how such monitoring adversley effects morale.

Legally its is not - Management have a duty of care to their employees and could use this as an excuse. For instance the manager above could have said "He looked to be struggling so I decided to watch him for a while, just in case he needed assistance" which may or may not be true but he can still use it as a reason to watch staff.

Being watched by Management makes me feel uncomfortable, untrusted and demotivated, however, as I know I am doing my best, know I am not breaking any rules and know in myself that I am an honest man, I know they won't find anything to get me on so I shrug if off and get on with my work.

Also to be honest overview by management is a lot tamer that in some jobs. Call centre staff regularly get critiqued on individual calls, and in some cases have management sitting next to them as they take calls. Now that is intimidating I know I worked in a call centre before I came to RM.
