The Mirror can today expose the Royal Mail's lies over its plans to axe 16,000 jobs.

When we confronted chief executive Adam Crozier on his way to work yesterday morning, he claimed he knew nothing of the cost-cutting proposals.

The £3million-a-year Fat Cat shrugged off our exclusive story and said: "I don't know what you're talking about."

But a leaked Royal Mail dossier - titled Project Tiger - reveals it has "a requirement to cut 10% from our cost base, including people costs". The secret proposal is part of a bid to reduce the wage bill by £470million - and just a fraction of company's larger plan.

The document is marked In Strictest Confidence and headed The Journey To Get Us There.

But before heading off in his Range Rover, Mr Crozier shrugged: "I have never heard of Project Tiger."

It is believed bosses want the plan to deliver £20million of cuts by the end of March - a total referred to in the documents as the "challenge". In a Q&A letter sent to staff, bosses admitted: "All costs are being reviewed including staff, vehicle and administration costs."

Communications Workers Union deputy leader Dave Ward accused Royal Mail bosses of a cover up. He claimed plans of how to achieve the cuts have been tabled at meetings with union officials across the country. He said: "We are telling the truth. Royal Mail is lying. It has secret plans to get rid of up to 16,000 people.

"These are Royal Mail's plans but they have been leaked to us and exposed by the Daily Mirror.

"There's no way these jobs cuts are realistic and they would have a devastating impact on services across the country."

The threat of job losses comes despite profits of £255million in the nine months up to Christmas last year.

Royal Mail claim the cuts are "about central costs and overheads and certainly not about our front-line people".

A spokesman said: "We want to work with our people so that we take into account their wishes."

Fact: Document was dated that month and - despite fierce opposition from the union - company has since implemented most of changes including forcing posties to work five years longer to get a full pension.

August 1, 2007: The Mirror published a story about mountain of undelivered mail that built up as a result of union strike action.

Lie: Royal Mail dismissed our report.

Fact: Bosses later admitted backlog caused by dispute was reason it missed government performance targets.

It'll come back officially in a bit more watered down form - as for 4 1/2 hr walks , Senior Management don't like the idea of 3 1/2 hr been that way since the dispute - they'd have forced it through , given half a chance

They royalmail are planning on 4 hour 15 minute deliveries at the moment and as such what's 15 minutes you will all get from the DOM'S and we all then go down the slippery slope of 5 or six hour's or more!. Even donkey's have more right's than the average postal worker in this land!.
