office savings gone mad

Post by Edward Hunter »

For this years "delivery office savings" our DOM worked out that we should lose 4 duties - 3 inside and one walk. He asked us to sign for them and warned it was better to keep them in house rather than go to disagreement (which currently our whole area has with regards to losing duties) After refusal, he comes back and says after consulting georute we have decided we can take out 10 WALKS!!
What sort of madness is this? Our DO is hard working and amongst the heaviest in our district and that is well recognised even amongst managers. This proposal isnt office savings it seems more like a punishment for not accepting what was offered and its just making the job unworkable. Even the loons who chase their tale will struggle to get done. Most will have no chance. What sort of service do we want to give the public. And more importantly why are management not consulting with the union on this (as stated in pay and modernisaton 2007) and instead crasing headlong into another strike situation. Utter stupidity . :d'oh!

Youve nailed it in 2 words

Utter stupidity

I would walk out of my office on my own if i had to as long as we were balloted properly, but i know at least half of the 90 staff would walk, the other half would probably vote for action then cross the line like last time! I hope all the sc**s get what they deserve & ive noticed a few in my office getting some rough treatment lately, shame :pray

Its the oldest trick in the book offer you a limited amount of savings and when you refuse say that they could take out significantly more. It is designed to make the members in your office panic and force members to put pressure on your local rep to do a deal. Dont be conned the National policy is begining to work and providing all offices refuse to accpet any more savings and raise the issue through the framework then Royal Mail will have to start talking to the CWU Nationally about an agreement.

Royal Mail have hated todays media intrest on the 16000 job losses as they cant hide behind modensation as they have delayed automation.

YES EXACTLY, OUR REP WENT INTO AN AREA UNION MEETING LAST WEEK, AND THEY WERE ALL TOLD TO REFUSE ALL THE PROPOSAL'S,SO YOU DO THE SAME, AND EXPLAIN TO ALL THE IDIOT'S POSTMEN WHO COME IN EARLY,THEN RUSH AROUND CUTTING CORNER'S RISKING OTHER PEOPLE'S LIFE'S BY SPEEDING,IT'S THERE OWN FAULT IF THEY CUT THE STAFF IN YOUR OFFICES.

DO THE JOB PROPERLY

Hi
Three weeks ago we were told to lapse 3 jobs, the new rep said no whereas all previous reps had reluctantly agreed, depite pressure he stuck to his gunns and we havent lapsed as a result. And funnily enough all the threats never materialised.

Then we get told our office has to cut 9 jobs, he is completely prepared for the same threats and has our support, amasing what can be done when you stick together.

Have just been reading the RM propaganda rag, the courier, who have at last admitted that packets have increased sharply.
That means that not only do we have a significant increase in packets to deliver we also need more bags dropped off to carry them all. How can RM possibly justify taking duties out when a) it takes a helluva lot more time to deliver a packet than a letter and b) we need to keep going back to pouch boxes to get more bags. This will increase the amount of time out on delivery regardless of whether I have 4 letters for Mrs P or 3. It is time for the CWU to push forward a new proposal to cut the length of duties and get extra staff in to sort the packets and to deliver the extra duties that will be created.
Use H&S to highlight weight issues, lack of pouch boxes for the extra bags needed for the packets and the dead walking to get the bags. Come on CWU, it's time to fight :mad
The time has come to stop turning the other cheek, time to stop shaking our heads in bitter dismay, time to stop mumbling our angry words.
The time has come for union.
