Can someone explain to me the process?

Post by bluelagoonproducts »

Hello,

Can anyone explaint to me the process of how mail is distributed between MC's?

Example Parcelforce's (and TNT/DHL etc etc) network is a "hub and spoke" model, all the depots send parcels to Coventry Hub for sortation, and vice versa. So a parcel from Liverpool postcode to Manchester postcode would go Liverpool depot--> Coventry Hub --> Manchester depot, despite the small distance between the 2.

Does Royal Mail work in a similar manner? For example what route would an letter/packet from Liverpool to Aberdeen or Aberdeen to Devon take?

Thanks

Well all our mail goes from our office, 45 mins drive to the mail centre and then back again the following day. People who post local to local can't seem to understand that we don't sort the mail in our office, just collect it in bags, send it off and wait for some to come back.

That's what they call progress.

Well I can sort of understand it working that way rather than us sorting the local stuff out first.

The only other way around it would be to have a separate box next to the postbox saying mail for postcodes X1, X2 and X3 only in this box and then you assume it's all local and to stay in your office for sorting the next day.

However, we still have to have a van turn up to take the rest of the mail away and bring us some more mail the next day so they might as well pay X people in the MC to sort letters from everywhere rather than a few people in each office. Probably costing them less to do it that way innit seeing as the vans are going this way anyway.
