If they want to reduce their wages bill by £470 million then the figure would be nearer 25,000 FT posties losing their jobs to save that figure and only get rid of 16,000 would mean they are on £30,000 per year

I received the letter, and the first thing to note is that its not done on seniority. They are looking at the cheapest options, which means people with less than 10 years service. When they have gone guess who is gonna be expected to pick up the slack?

Postman the reason it took so long to come out is that Royal Mail were and still are hiding this news. Operation tiger was about the union exposing whats happening to the media and public at large. And its worked so far with lots of media interst and lots of coverage.

With regards to VRs and indivudals appertite I remember a certain Allan leighton claiming under SDD that OPGs would be quing from wembley for VRS. Well not many went and the fact is that for every 10 indiivduals who apply for a VR quote only 1 normally goes. In this recession I would think that may ever go higher. In any case I am a great believer that the CWU mains piority is to look after those who want to stay in the industry rather then sell jobs to allow those who want to go.

I'd agree with that 100%. For reasons that I cannot divulge at the moment I have been desperately looking for another job. But believe me, unless you have telesales ambitions there aint a lot out there. Just take a look at the jobs on offer at reed.co.uk or similar sites, its really pretty depressing.
