All deliveries cancelled & we was all sent home after prepping everything in!! Seems crazy to me, afterall it's only a bit of snow! Twice as much to take out in the morning, when the conditions will probably be even worse if it freezes over night. Luckily it's my day off! :dance

rural deliveries cancelled
had to prep our rurals then those walks that never made it in then split them between rural drivers
so those who stayed home get a normal day 2morrow but those that turned up will have twice as much in the morning GREAT TEAM WORKING

All our rural delivieres were cancelled and everyone was put on the town deliveres (our office is mostly rural). We got back from doing the towns about 11:00 and the final wagon that should have arrived at 06:30 just pulled up so then we had to sort and prep all that, then go out with the specials. In the end I only finished half an hour early where as most left over 2 hours early. We were told that these hours will be banked and will have to be worked once normal deliveries are resumed. They can go f**k themselves as far as I am concerned.

Why are all these duties being cancelled? We had it just as bad but were sent out! Where I had to deliver (a rural) with a bike it was a death trap underfoot. I was dumped 8 miles away from the DO with busses cancelled and Taxi's fully booked up. Anyone know the position on this?

Crazy!

Thanks for that, learned something new. Looks like my run should have been classified as High Risk and arrangements made for me to get back to the DO. All this document does is enforce how crap and uncaring my lino is. Actually, have I learned anything at all!?

Don't complain to hard, its a bonus not having the correct footwear you are less likely to break your neck with your own shoes on.

Slush and sleet today, so I got cold and wet and my bike had trouble staying upright at the beginning but it got easier the longer the day went on. Now it looks like the slush will freeze making it even more dangerous tomorrow.

I started at 6am and by 6:30am I was extremely pissed off and blubbing because I was so annoyed and didn't know what to do with myself.

2 weeks ago, my DOM told me I was on loan this week at another office (the area manager was the one who suggested it to help him out!). He knows I'll make up my hours (a thing called trust) and has left me to it. Line manager phones me today and basically says that I need to tell him exactly what I've worked, that being on loan doesn't mean being on loan for the whole week, just monday to friday and I'm back in my own office on saturday because they need to send someone out on delivery and I need to cover him and then I also owe them 5 hours. I told him I was nearly over my hours anyway and that the work I had agreed to do on saturday was overtime as discussed with the DOM (YESTERDAY!!) and he says no, that's not the case. I asked him if he and the DOM actually speak to each other and why is he telling me on Thursday there's no cover for Saturday when he's had a fortnight to get it sorted?!

He asked who had told me to work more than 5 hours a day that I've currently been doing and I tried to explain that no one had TOLD me to do it. I needed to work those hours to make sure I got the work finished by tomorrow. I don't want to just turn up and do a couple of hours a day and then find out tomorrow that the work is nowhere near finished and I've let people down who were relying on that being finished by tomorrow. If I go over my hours, the office on loan will pay me the overtime as the work needs finishing. If I do finish it and I've done my hours then I don't have to do anything on Saturday as they can't force me to go over my time and you can't very well phone me on a Thursday and tell me what I should've been doing all week.

He did this to me the last time I was on loan, phoned me up on the Friday and told me that I was working in my own office on the Saturday. Told him I'd done my hours this week bar 1 or 2 and that I was owed those hours anyway. He wanted to know all the ins and outs of what I'd done that week (no trust!) and I ended up paying someone to cover the 2 hours he wanted me to turn up for the day because I couldn't be bothered to argue with him, and you can't argue or reason with him anyway.

He has absolutely no people management skills what so ever. He basically made me feel like it was my fault that something wasn't done in my own office last saturday when I wasn't even in work the week that the things that were meant to have been done weren't done. He was also trying to get me to find out where a parcel went. I pointed out that if other people who are meant to be responsible for these things aren't doing their job properly, how am I supposed to find that out?! I suggested a next course of action for him and it just went in one ear and out the bloody other because he asked me about it again today!

Sorry for the rant but it really pissed me off. Phoned my DOM and sorted it out so I'm only doing what I agreed with him for Saturday and the line manager can stick it. And in future, he can put it in writing what hours I'm meant to be doing when I'm on loan so if he tries to change the rules again when it suits, he can get stuffed. So there.

Thank you for not losing the will to live and making it to the end of my essay.

I thought the working in other units procedure was that you turn up at your normal office and they arranged transport to the other office (and transport back) all within your normal working hours. I'm sure that one of the mods. can dig out the P&M agreement that relates to it.

Had some snow here today. Just a steady snowfall, but nothing heavy. Mail was a bit heavier today, although the packets were on the light side. Cold here.
