A question regarding privacy
When a person is sick do they have to give full details of the illness if they yet have to see their GP to have the illness confirmed? The reason I ask is because I suspect I am either in a deep depression, or suffering from stress, but I'm a bit embarrased to suggest it in case my GP says otherwise. I'd rather not give out something like this if I can avoid it.

If you believe you are suffering from depression or stress then you must go and see your doctor for treatment and he/she will issue you a sick note if required, this is for your benefit and not RM. As regards to calling in sick, describe the symptoms (for instance headache, upset stomach etc) but not the cause leave that to your GP if he/she issues a sick note.
Take your rep in though.Absences due to sickness are assumed to be genuine.
A return to work discussion will take place but employees will not be required to disclose information of a personal or sensitive nature if they choose not to do so.

There is nothing to be embarrassed about if you are indeed suffering from depression, just remember Spike Milligan.
Tell the truth to your D.O.M. he cannot discriminate against you and you have the right to medical attention for what ,if left untreated, can get worse.
Seek help my friend and get it sorted.
Our D.O.M. had a year off with depression and is still working.

Many thanks to you both. I don't mind admitting here that I'm in a bit of a mess because its quite anonymous. But I doubt I'll be admitting that to anyone at work until Iv'e seen my GP. Thanks again.
