Hi hope this is in the right place its my first post have been a postie for about 6 years now im at a sub office been there for 4 years have always been a float there covering days off thats my duty there were 2 people employed after me 1 to do a round as I wanted to stay a float and the other to cover holiday and when there were no one on holiday that person would have to go to other offices but now we have lost a round so we have lost the guy that was covering holiday and the other guy that is doing the holiday cover now and my manager has now said that as no one is on holiday when you come in one of you will have to go to another office but why should I when I have a duty to do covering days off plus I was there before the other guy. thx

Wondering if i've read your post right.
If you are a 'rest day cover' ie: you cover 5 duties a week when the duty holder has their days off,and the other bloke is a reserve then as a duty holder you stay and he goes instead,but usually if he has no duty to cover that day.
If you are both reserves and dont hold a duty then i'm guessing you could either take turns,or you could pull rank as you're senior to him.

well yer either way you look at it I was there befor him and im the rest day cover but ever since I told my manager i want a transfer hes been a c*** nothing new there but he told me policy's have changed bull sh** have they so hes saying there is a policy that a new employee has more rights than a senior man makes me laugh. So my next question if he tries it again what can i do about it as we had a heated row over it all he wanted was for me to say sorry for treating him like s**t i say what comes around goes around god i sound like a right moaner lol

This is from the CWU and it's the P&M agreement,your manager,suprise suprise,is talking bollox,you are a duty holder,now unless you are say a driver and another office needs a driver then the reserve is the 1st to go.And only if he's spare.Working in nearby offices is now subject to local agreement with the Union. There are many offices around the country who have successfully concluded agreements that deal with this situation. This includes the ability to utilise reserves and volunteers. Working in nearby offices will be the exception rather than the norm and should only apply where there are surplus staff or genuine operational needs.
Working in nearby offices “ Areas will identify and agree with the CWU locally a approach (which could include the use of volunteers and reserves) to working in nearby offices within employees’ contracted hours which will include travel times and appropriate travel and subsistence arrangements.

been in this office 4 years now only met a rep once coz of a despite thats was going on with other colleges but think he was from another area so have no idea who the rep is.
