Re: Snow and Ice
We had to do all of our walks - only 2 bags as 1 wagon was cancelled and missort run was also cancelled - got out 0845 instead of 0940 but still did not get done till 1300. Snow was 6 to 8 inches deep on average and had frozen overnight, legs hurt now, not because of falling over, I didn't, but just the effort of wading through it all.

Re: Snow and Ice
We had our 2nd day without going out on delivery, we have had a day of sun today and there has been a slight thaw but the pavements are still covered with ice and tonight it is forcast to be -3 so tomorrow (Wednesday) any slushy pavements will have re-frozen so I can't see us going out on delivery again tomorrow. Royal Mail and the management have been feeding us health and saftey for the last year or so and will also put people on a stage 1 for accidents at work so we as an office have took a stance that we don't go out untill the pavements are safe, also if you do go out in bad conditions you set a presidence and will find it hard to argue against it in the futue, we have more snow which has been forcast for thursday so be aware.

Re: Snow and Ice
SE area. We were requested to go out but not too take risks so i left 3 small roads behind as they were steep hills
. It was hard going and snow was crunchy and over a foot deep in average. Got the van stuck twice on ice so dumped it and loaded up . Carried bout 6 bags in all and still have 4 trays of mailsort flats un-prepped at office. Got back 1.50pm knackerd and a sore blister because of soaked soaks. Wont be much better tommorrow.

Rows of houses all bearing down on me........I can feel their blue hands touching me.......All these things in all positions.........All these things will one day take control..........

Re: Snow and Ice
All of West London told its up to us to make the decision as to whether to go out or not. Anyone not going out at our place had to ips what came up on the van, then throw off walks of posties that decided to do a bit. H&S said no HCT s to be used so a few took a couple of blocks of flats out in a pouch. So 2 days running with no deliveries for alot of walks here. Tomorrow is going to be heavy. Call in the 20 hour boys we need some help!

Re: Snow and Ice
Day of yesterday came into work this morning and couldn't believe what I was hearing. There was thick snow and still snowing hard outside and the DIM insisted all deliveries would go out as normal but also that absorbing deliveries would take place as well. We also had to absorb today aswell manager saying its because we're short staffed and absolutley no mention about any heath or safety issues due to the snow and ice. After 25yrs I've had enough of this sh1t please please let me have redundancy.

Our lot took half a walk today, packets left,so there will be a big backlog of them.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
